| 629280 | 2008-01-10 22:51:00 | hi, i am wondering if anyone can help diagnois my car problem. i have a mitsubishi fto - auto - 1995. the 1st part of the problem was that my battery just died out of the blue, got a new battery and put it in. this worked for about an hour but everytime i idled the battery light came on and it had a weird humming noise. then it completely died again, the car wont start and when i tried to turn it on, it has a very weird, loud humming noise coming from behind the dashboard in the motor. i have had a look at this site and a sticky solenoid seems to be a possible option but we are concerned that it could be another problem too....can anyone please help me.... thank you!! | janine (13271) | ||

| 629286 | 2008-01-11 04:33:00 | Possibly the fault is the bearing gone in the alternator. Get your partner to disconnect the belt to the alternator and jump start car. if the noise goes away that will be alt confirmed u/s. Then put fan belt back on get your partener to go to Dick Smith and buy the cheapest multi meter aroun $12.00. Measure battery voltage with car not running it will be less than 12.8 volts start motor it should be around 14.7 volts. If the problem with the starting isnt simple get Pick a part to take your car away they arent worth fixing that old. C1 |
