629092 2008-01-10 07:46:00 Hey everyone. I just got sky installed today and there's one thing thats bothering me right now...my decoder. Apparently my decoder is a Motorola DTH335-4...manufactured in 2005! With firmware dated sometime in 2004. Should I be worried? As I would really prefer not to have old technology given to me when I believed I should have been given a more recent one...Your views/opinions on this please. Thanks EviLClouD (12981)

629094 2008-01-10 07:59:00 Yea it works...but still....the remote is big and chunky...nothing like the one they have for display in their guide...

p.s. anyone have a decoder with this remote?

If you do, do you mind checking the manufacture date for me? Located possibly on the bottom/underneath of the decoder.

Thanks

629095 2008-01-10 08:22:00 That's just the 'normal' remote, but the picture has been chopped off at the top and bottom. pine-o-cleen (2955)
629096 2008-01-10 08:31:00 Yea I know...Sorry, I couldn't find a picture of the whole remote xD

Yea, that's the remote I want...and currently don't have. The one I have is longer and wider...So i'm looking at exchanging my current decoder+remote for the remote pictured plus the corresponding decoder...only if it's newer than mine though...no point in getting an even older item...

But seriously though, I think if you are worried about the visual asthetics of your decoder, you're putting too much concern into it. It's just a box that does a task. If you don't like the look of it, hide it away.

629098 2008-01-16 23:39:00 Sky decoders don't have to be replaced often, and firmware is the same (the crypto section may be updated somewhat regularly, but if it is, it's not considered part of the main firmware). It would be nice if they actually gave it a half-decent CPU, so the menu isn't like wading through molasses, but I doubt that. They have no reason to upgrade boxes, so they don't. It does the exact same thing as any recently manufactured one, so don't worry about it. ubergeek85 (131)
