628016 2008-01-07 03:00:00 FIRST QUESTION Hi, I’d like to do a little consumer survey with your help. I wont tell you too many details yet as I want an unbiased honest opinion. The question is if you had bought a ceramic hob of a reputable brand how long would you expect it to last without any thing going wrong and in particular the rotary switches? I appreciate your help Robinz (9362)
628017 2008-01-07 03:44:00 Depends on how much I paid for it and how I used it. Say 5 years as the MINIMUM. beeswax34 (63)

I assume you mean mean the cheaper ceramic hobs, and not induction hobs, whick look similar.
The life of the kitchen, say 10-15 up to 20 years. There isn't much to go wrong with them.

628021 2008-01-07 04:29:00 We've had issues with the knobs on ours after about 7 years, though I'm not 100% sure. One of them became very dodgy, and another one snapped off. This is a reputable brand, middle of the range ceramic cooktop. somebody (208)
628022 2008-01-07 04:53:00 Eight years so far looks as good as the day installed, no knobs though, you just wave your thumb over one corner and things happen tutaenui (1724)

We have a gas hob which is around about 20 years old, and still working as good as new. In my next house I am looking at induction hobs. I would however expect any stove or oven to last a minimum of 20 years, as there isn't really much to go wrong with them.

628025 2008-01-07 06:07:00 30 years and still going strong. Replaced all the neon indicators once, replaced the "hot" lamp about 4 times (but sometimes didn't bother to replace for months - you soon know if it's hot when you put your hand on it.) :waughh:
Rotary switches? They just turn around to make it hotter or not. No problems.
