| 627818 | 2008-01-06 11:07:00 | I had a play with one of these (www.dse.co.nz) a couple of weeks before xmas at dse. Today my brother dropped around with he has just got. Left with me for a couple of hours to play with. Its great, small but very usable for surfing the internet and emailing. Used skype with the built in webcam, half decent picture on it..........:2cents: ideal for anyone wanting a second laptop or even using it for your sole laptop. Definitely not going to be a replacement for a main computer. |

Definitely not going to be a replacement for a main computer. I have one, and it does a really good job for basic day-to-day stuff (email, web browsing, skype listening a bit of music/watching some videos etc.) Check out www.eeeuser.com - there are some people on the forum there who have done some amazing mods to their Eees, e.g. adding touchscreen functionality. |

Give me a couple of weeks, and I'll be able to tell you. I suspect though, that the minimal CPU/RAM/Graphics may not be able to cope with that sort of setup. |

| 627823 | 2008-01-06 21:58:00 | had one running XP in our test centre, didn't test the media center part, but it ran XP just fine (and office 07 i might add) | Jan Birkeland (4741) | ||

| 627826 | 2008-01-07 04:01:00 | It'll run as a media centre but realistically ONLY if you up the CPU to 900MHz (see my sig), otherwise 630MHz is just too slow It'll play DVDs if you hook up an external player and most DivX movies, even some h.264 (If running at 900MHz, depending on the decoder, the rest, the framerate, bitrate etc) It does games pretty decent, but again something about the shared memory means theres quite a decent boost in performance. The stock standard Xandros OS is really quite fast thou! Even running at 630MHz! Boot up time is 12 seconds, shutdown in 4, OpenOffice etc all runs fine, as does a combination of having Skype, Gaim, Firefox (and 12 tabs), OpenOffice Writer, Adobe Reader, amaroK, WINE playing PokerStars, all running fine :) I was honestly blown away. One thing to note, it only has VGA output, not RCA... |
