783319 2009-06-18 06:33:00 Hi there

Im having problems cleaning up a porrtable USB Hard Drive. Win Explorer shows 40Gb drive with 9Gb already taken up, but it also shows NO files in the drive.

Ive ticked Show Hidden Files & Folders, and Right Clicked, Disc Cleanup, but still the same report.

Any idea how I can view whats there and restore/cleanout the occupied space?

Thanks

John in Mosgiel

783320 2009-06-18 06:38:00 Use a live linux CD boot from it and then you should be able to see what's there gary67 (56)
783321 2009-06-18 07:49:00 You could just format it and that would give you all your space back but that would be a bit extreme in case you needed some data off it. beeswax34 (63)
783322 2009-06-18 07:55:00 I was gonna suggest that but the OP wants to see what's there first gary67 (56)
783323 2009-06-18 08:15:00 Grrrr.... Kick myself in the arse.

A quick format restored the missing capacity.

So simple, I should have thought of it myself.

Grrrr

:-)

783324 2009-06-18 09:10:00 Most probably corrupt file system/partition tables.

Next time try chkdsk driveletter: /f on it:)
