| 1439966 | 2017-09-29 02:12:00 | Hi Walt, "Police Eagle Helicopter to operate 24/7" From Monday (2 October 2017) the Police Eagle Helicopter will be operating 24-hours a day, 7 days a week providing essential support to on-the-ground staff in keeping our communities safe . These extra hours have become possible through the Safer Communities package announced earlier this year, which will see an extra $388 million dollars of funding for police during the next four years . Police Commissioner Mike Bush says the investment enables police to allocate new staff, equipment, training and other resources to districts and service centres and included amongst this is the ability for Eagle to go 24/7 . Literally having eyes in the sky will give us an invaluable advantage in keeping the streets safe for our communities . Eagle is involved in not only catching offenders but it also greatly assists with search and rescue operations . There are many examples where thanks to Eagle missing children, elderly people and those who may have health issues have been quickly located . In the 2016/17 financial year, Eagle attended over 3500 incidents and in almost 1600 of those incidents, the targeted person was located . This includes offenders who had committed offences including burglaries, vehicle theft, aggravated robberies or been involved in pursuits . These results really speak for themselves . We want our community to know that when Eagle is up in the air, it is playing a vital role in keeping families and whanau safe . An official ceremony will be held at Eagles base at Mechanics Bay starting at 10am . Media are welcome to attend . Media, please note, there is a one-off opportunity for media to come out with Eagle, however there are very limited spaces available and restrictions around what can be filmed . Ends Shelley Nahr/NZ Police :clap |

I thought the Ranui helicopter just about did that now...it's overhead so often. |

| 1439969 | 2017-09-29 03:12:00 | so, in the air 24/7 ? or just allways available , on call ? Really annoying when the Police Chopper is flying around where I live at night, so damn loud . Thankfully not too often Money would be better spent on more coppers on call. So they can go out and catch the bad guys as soon as people ring, rather than hours or days later . |

Your concerns have already been addressed, 1101 ... I think you'll find 24/7 refers to its availability - machine and crew on standby. :) |

Translated, it means, you might get a response to your plea for help in 24 hours, or in 7 days, or in 24 weeks, or in 7 years, or you may just get in the normal infinite delays of the system while those blackguards doing 104kmh get the convoys of flashing lights sent out on their trail instantly. |
