1439694 2017-09-24 03:37:00 Do I have to just download the . iso to the USB Stick or do I have to extract it to the stick from where I put it on the desktop?

OR ---> should I put the download on the stick and EXTRACT HERE to get it onto the stick too? I have an 8G stick here so there should be enough room .

UBUNTU System>Administrator has a USB Startup DISK Creator . I've tried it - probably incorrectly - and don't get very far .

The little load bar just keeps on running and running - but it does develop a folder (?) on the USB Stick for the extracted files, so at least it's trying

The stick was formatted at FAT32 by a Win-XP/P 'puter and I checked it on this version of UBUNTU and it shows it empty .

I UNMOUNT it, pull it out, stick it back in and it still shows empty when UBUNTU re-mounts the stick all by itself .

I'm trying to dual-boot Mint with Ubuntu .

I have had a few successes doing this - so I know it can be done - multi-booting, that is .

Some specs - Ubuntu is running fine although it is ancient and won't update because it's too long in the tooth .

I have not been successful in getting the WIFI/wireless card (MOBO Version) NOR the Alpha unit .

They both blink and/or light us their little diodes, but working - NO .

What I want to install is below:

Version of Linuxmint - 18 . 2 Cinnamon - 64 bit ISO

Puter is an Athlon 64 v2 1902 mHz
Chipset - AMD 2391
I've tried these USB Boot commands:

USB FDD
USB ZIP
USB CDR
USB HDD

Which one of the above is correct?

1439695 2017-09-24 04:07:00 Assuming you are referring to a Linux ISO ( or any ISO really), you have to use specific software ( its a LOT easier). You can't just copy the files.

Something like UNetbootin will do all the work for you https://unetbootin.github.io/

Keep in mind as well if the Motherboard is to old it may not have the ability to boot from USB.

1439696 2017-09-24 04:09:00 You have to extract it with something like Rufus then boot from it (http://rufus.akeo.ie/)

An ISO if you copy it straight to a USB flash drive, isnt bootable

USB hdd MAY work, but if none of them work then you cant install it

1439697 2017-09-24 04:32:00 Linux Mint's iso guides can help you with writing it to USB. There's other ways to just boot from an iso but to keep it simple, you would be better writing it to the stick and booting from that. Use USB HDD as the option of booting from your USB stick. Kame (312)
1439698 2017-09-24 04:44:00 I see four possible USB boot areas - or qualifications I guess. So - the MOBO should be able to do it.

I've got unetbootin trying right now.

Ooops! It had a lot of items that it could not process. Unetbootin barfed.

I wonder if I should try to download Mint here on this XP-P 'puter and then try to load it onto the stick with one of those two apps?

1439699 2017-09-24 04:52:00 Unetbootin allowed me three version to download (see below) - tell me --- is it for the 'puter it's going on or for the puter that's going to have the Linux version on it?

Kinda confusing .

FWIW: I'm using a WinXP puter to download Linuxmint and then put it on the USB stick .

OR do I have to use the same puter where the new distro is GOING (which already has Linux Ubuntu)!

Android
Windoze
iPoo stuff .

1439701 2017-09-24 07:27:00 I get this:

Windows - No Disk

Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6f7c

Cancel Try Again Continue

None of those buttons do anything but make the screen blink every time I hit any of them.

What's that mean?

OK - I Googled it and am at a restart now.

1439702 2017-09-24 14:53:00 I'm still stuck with a question .

Do I use my M$ machine to run Undtbootin or does it have to be run on my Ubuntu machine since that's where I want to put it?

IOW . . . . the opsys of the puter running Unetbootin . . . . . does it have to be on the same type of platform? (Like Win on a Win-machine . . . . . . or Linux on a Linux machine? Or forbid this . . . . iOS on an iOS machine?)

Could this be my problem?

I solved the "can't find the optical drive: Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4" hissy that XP threw . . . . . . by editing the Registry .

Doesn't this require having an up-n-running Linux Mint first?

I still dont know if loading/writing to the Mint installation stick can be on a Win machine . That just seems wrong to me .

The USB HDD option works . . . . . I've just got to solve the actual loading the stick with the right installation form or format, whatever!

I'm reading all I can about Unetbootin . . . . have even run it a few times . . . . and each failure causes me to learn something new .

I had to solve that CD/Write problem first . Done and done on that!

Sorry to be such a big pest .
