1439653 2017-09-23 07:53:00 I've just bought a new-to-me car and it needs a couple tyres. But despite viewing six seller's websites here in Napier none of them provide a price! Even the one's I called said I have to go in to get a price. I mean, what the feck are they skeered of!?

Anyway, what can I expect to pay for a pair of mid-quality tyres? (195/65 R15). I haven't bought tyres in over 4 years so I'm kinda out of touch.

Get a pad, write down all the tyre companies names and walk in and ask. Make a show of writing down their quote. and let them know you are shopping around. Then go to Tony's last and they will beat the lowest price.

Works for me!! :banana

You should be looking at a price range of $65 to $200 new, quality not considered but brands I do like myself are Dunlop, Pirelli and Michelin which are at the higher price range. There maybe a fitting charge for each tyre too, so expect another $20 or so on each tyre.

Perhaps a sure sign they cant compete pricewise , or all in collusion to price fix ? .
In Ak a month back every Tyre place I rang gave prices . They all quoted different brands so couldnt really compare

1439657 2017-09-24 23:55:00 It's a marketing trick used in some industries, they figure getting you in the door is the biggest hurdle so they try and make you come to them.
Also there are sometimes valid arguments about making sure they price the right thing for you and don't rely on your assessment of what you need.

Whatever the reason it's annoying, who want's to physically shop around in this day and age.
