1438943 2017-09-08 22:17:00 Now Vodafone is scraping their email service we will use gmail.
We will continue using Windows Live Mail & setup our gmail accounts on that.
Question is weather to use IMAP or POP.
Both seem to be an option.

1438944 2017-09-08 22:49:00 Depends on how you use email.

If you only have the one device, be it a Laptop, Desktop, Tablet and only want mail on that then POP is fine. If you want to have access to mail on several devices, then IMAP.

IMAP syncs ALL the mail to all locations /devices, where as POP doesn't.

With POP you can set it to save a copy on the server, for so many days or clear as it comes through. With IMAP, the sync, if you send a mail it goes to the sent items on the device, that folder/mail also syncs online and to other devices.

An example is say you are at home, send a email from your laptop. Some time later you are at someones place or another location - you can log onto your online account, and that same sent mail will be there, even though the laptop may still be at home. The downside of IMAP is generally ( by default) what ever you do on one device it will sync/copy. So if you delete a mail it will delete everywhere.

Theres many more options but really upto what you want to do. Some devices wont work on POP so IMAP is the only option.

1438947 2017-09-09 01:33:00 I've tried IMAP with Gmail with my MS Office Outlook it was slower than my clear.net pop email. The benefit for me with IMAP or simply just using web mail is that it collects your archive so if I am outside with just my phone or overseas or at a friends place u can still access it. One time overseas I had to make a call home tell someone my windows password logon and then guide them to look up an email forward it to my Gmail before I could I..... Nomad (952)

So why not use the Gmail client on your Chrome browser?
