You believe anything they say at your own peril.

However, Sir Humphrey Appleby will have the inside info. ;)

Interesting you'd use something from the media as a form of evidence then. Fairly standard moronic post from you.

While not all outlets are perfect, the media is a damn important source of information in a democracy. Just because you don't like what they say doesn't mean they're wrong.

Oh good lord, I didn’t rely on the media for the facts, I just supplied the photo to help you out. :waughh:

I am however surprised that the Media haven’t yet located some Dizzy Dame, searching for fame, that claims Winston touched her inappropriately 30 years ago. :D

1440437 2017-10-16 06:59:00 One man Gang, i think Muldoon was a one man party

Correct, Muldoon was known as the gang of one! A take off on Communist China's gang of four.

I met him on a number of occassions, he was a very able man with an extraordinary memory, he prepared all his own speeches, no speech writer for Sir Robert, frequently he spoke without or with minimal notes, and most of what he said was good practical common sense.
Sir Robert also showed great loyalty to his subordinates, a quality usually absent in politicians.

1440439 2017-10-16 09:43:00 Michelle Boag, who actually worked for Muldoon has responded:

Yes, Muldoon was an incredibly powerful personality who intimidated largely by using silence and pausation to expert effect whether on television or on a platform. He was the master of the casual put-down, with famous one-liners which appeared to be impromptu but were, in fact, assiduously crafted by his cigar-smoking/three-piece suit attired/viciously tongued speechwriter, Ken Hancock, may he rest in peace.

Muldoon? A very able man? He was one of the worst Prime Ministers this country has ever had!

The problem with 'good practical common sense' is that a lot of the time it's actually total rubbish.

Quite agree, I was in business when he was PM. He tried to run the country's finances by legislation. A total disaster.

SWMBO worked for Carter Holt and says the ex Forestry Service managers used to tell of orders from Wellington to lock up the bulldozer and roller scrub clearers. Unemployment was rising and they would have to use manpower for scrub clearing. NZR soaked up heap of enemployed as well. I had a mate who was an ex engineer who got out of the trade and bought a Taxi licence. When he needed a break he put on a relief driver for a month and as he was a bit short of money with a growing family he used to get work in the railway workshops here in Napier.

He was trying to cope with a country with a failing economy. Price & wage freeze was his answer .
High inflation , balance of payment issues (hence the Carfree days scam) ,
inefficient industries propped up with tarrifs and subsidies .
Communist Unions hell bent on causing trouble, rather than look after workers interests
No real economic freedom with so many govt owned business's & services given monopolies , shutting out any competition.

Labour got a very bad rap for actually trying to fix things after Muldoon , rather than defer the issues or carry on as is.

The media!!!!!
It wasn't long ago when they had a news item about a potato shortage without checking out all the facts. Thank goodness one of them didn't see a sign somewhere announcing war has been declared.
