Prefect has a point Gary about stupid voters :) You weren't here but back in 1990 the voters elected a National government................but here is the irony of it......... We had had 6 years of Rogernomics with a ??Labour?? government to the right of Genghis Khan, massively increasing unemployment, manufacturing and firms closing, wholesale layoffs in the public sector, like Telecom, Railways, Ministry of Works so on and so on , subsidies the people and the farmers had enjoyed taken away (like milk at 9 cents a litre, a whole side of lamb for about $10-$12 etc etc). Lange called for a pause in Rogernomics and time for a cup of tea. People voted National thinking that they would return to the good old Muldoon days of full employment and subsidies, protected from the slings and arrows of the outside world, a government somewhat to the left of Mao..............BUT........... what they got was Ruth Richardson's "Mother of All Budgets", and of course a National Government that had to be to the right of the Rogernomics ??Labour?? government.............what a hoot :clap :banana |
