Nahhh, just a bit of Bifo, don’t read it if it offends.

I enjoy sitting in the “Political Centre” and laughing at the extremists.

Remember, the freedom of free speech doesn’t revolve around just a few.

1440597 2017-10-28 18:47:00 I’s all right Zippity, anger is just part of the grieving process. You’ll get over it and the Politicians don’t run the country anyway. The Bureaucrats do and they haven’t changed. ;)

Have you not noticed that in the absence of any Politicians how smoothly the country has run. :)

"We'll see what happens...." Pays to be careful making comments like that :D Its happened many times a comment comes back to bite on the backside.

With that in mind, lets bookmark this Thread, then in a year or two come back and see what's developed or changed for good or Bad :).

Great idea.

It is far to early to judge the current lot. They will either do well or they will be gone again next election.

1440600 2017-10-29 05:49:00 Your formula is correct, Nick . But I rejected the textbook approach as too simplistic, using instead the Reserve Bank calculator with a reverse approach . My septuagenarian (undoubtedly at least partially atrophied) brain reasoned that to be more realistic, as it (RBNZ) uses historical quarterly indices .

By no means accurate, it does however factor in a degree of realism appropriate for this forum and discussion . I did use the building sector calculation whereas strictly speaking I should have used wages .

I'm not too sure how discounting cash flows at the rate of inflation is too simplistic . To me, it seems like a pretty accurate way of . . . . adjusting cash flows for inflation .

I mean if we really wanted to get into the technical side of things, the CPI isn't a perfect measure of inflation, as it depends on how accurately the weights reflect current spending trends, and as a Laspeyres index, will slightly overstate inflation .
