1440059 2017-10-02 20:12:00 Lets look in our own back yard before criticizing US gun laws.

We have our own cache of gun nutters here . And have had our own mass shooting (not to that extent though)
Not to mention NZ Gun collectors , who have in the past been the source that crims get guns from, either buy illegal sale or theft

Kiddies being shot in the US....
Just recently, in NZ, a parent was tried for shooting his baby (with a gun he owned illegally )
Once guns are sold, and out in the public, its basically too late to try & control them.

1440060 2017-10-02 20:17:00 guns per capital, a better estimate than some nonsense given as fact
en.wikipedia.org

US 116 per 100 citizens

Finland has a high gun ownership, yet doesnt have the issues (yet)

1440061 2017-10-02 20:47:00 Interesting fact on TV this morning... there is an average of 6.6 guns per house in the USA

Ken

The 24 I own should a skew that average...... huh?

Looking at a 10mm Glock Gen5 right now.

1440062 2017-10-02 21:16:00 Why do we always run the Americans down about guns/firearms.

We had a Maori bloke go over to Libya to learn terrorist activities, Tamati in central North Island, caused quite a stir, Police upset the Bros pretty bad.

This Maori even shot the NZ flag at one time.

We are as bad as the US but on a very small percentage 360m over 4.5m, work it out.

I think new Zealand and Finland have more rifles than the USA.
I wish we had the right to bear arms openly like the USA. Guns dont kill people people kill people. This country we have to jump through flaming hoops every 10 years for the right to be able to use guns to shoot wild animals and targets.

I think the percentages would be the same . . . . . if 60% of NZ population was compared to 60% of US population, and 60% represented the firearm owners, the actual numbers of owners would be vastly different .

Therein maybe the incidence rate in per capita numbers would pencil out .

I own what I own for protection against grizzly bears, black bears, brown bears, bears of all kinds really, or wolves and/or mooses . I have had too many bear incidences lately when I am trout fishing .

If I can't outrun 'em, I'm gonna shoot 'em . I'll go down shooting like they did in Men In Black .

Ya see . . . . . . bears can run 30-35 MPH and I can't . At 200 feet away, a charging bear will be on you in less than 4 trigger pulls . . . . . . . IF you can find your pistol, that is . . . . . quickly enough .

One needs serious knock-down power, which a 10mm has . . . . . . in spades .

A cross-chest/cross-draw holster with a 10mm Glock Model 29, 5th Gen with a 16 count clip and 1 in the chamber of 260gr, 1100 fps hardened lead, semi-jacketed, copper clad, super-vel rounds will knock a medium-sized 400 lb bear flat on their back .

A bigger bear might require a couple more rounds to knock them down . . . . . and then you can move in for the coup-de-grace . (sp? . . . . my Spell Chunker let that go, so it may be spelled right!) .

I double-tap a pistol as a rule, so bullets hit in pairs . My intention here would be to have 16 rounds, less than 6 inches behind each other hitting any bear . . . . . or wolf . . . . . or Mr . Mooses .

Really though, I'm getting rid of almost everything else, especially my M1 Garand 7 . 62mm, most of my shotguns and a few pistols, as they don't really suit my needs . I don't hunt . . . . I fish . . . . which should not be a contact sport! Tell that to the bears and the deer though . . . . . . but they don't read the signs along the roads .

My M1 Garand Tanker is just too too powerful, and since I have a few thousand army surplus, armor piercing rounds, I can't be sure not to accidentally kill 5 or 6 people further down the road or in the next county .

My . 38 Special and my . 357 Mag make neat holes in a bear, but unless they hit something vital, you're warm lunch on-the-hoof to any bear .

Mr . MOOSE will rip you up and although he doesn't eat you, you are just smeared around the site where you and he met .

. 22s are for target plinking, gopher and prairie dog control . . . . and I'll keep my Remington Olympic Medalist . 22 .

A . 22 would only make a bear very angry too . Nix that!

I have a 16 gauge single action, break down shotgun that I'll keep because my dad gave gave it to me 60 years ago .

I have a 1776 Navy . 44cal cap-n-ball, black powder pistol replica that I'll keep for the fun of lots of smoke and thunder and little else . I guess it might scare a bear though .

My wife carries a S&W . 38 Chief's Special, Model 60, stainless steel 5-shot revolver in her purse as a finishing weapon should she hit a large animal on the road . It happens here a lot!

She has it loaded with virgin Remington 167gr Super Vel, semi-jacket hollow points .

She also sometimes packs has a Model 1911 . 45 cal US Military (Picatinny Arsenal) semi-auto pistol too . . . . and she has several thousand rounds under her belt from her first husband's insistence as he was a watch commander in the police in Xxxxxxxx, California . She "carried" his backup firearm when they were together, out as a non-police, off duty couple

She is very firearm savy .

Deer around here are like mice everywhere else . They are found dead on the sides of the highways here . . . . sometimes 8 or 10 to the mile during the rut . There's also a lot of headlights, windshields, fenders and skid marks too .

Oh . . . . and I have a US Navy 4-gauge, 26 . 5mm Very Pistol with about 30 red star shells that I'll keep . One never knows when one will be lost at sea .

Oh the favourite statement made by the gun psychos in the US,

Tell me what else you use a gun for.,

Here in NZ people get run over, bashed, stabbed, hit with objects. All of which are normally used for other purposes.
Sure we have a few gun deaths, but nothing like the US.

Remember their laws, it is OK, and not news to shoot someone who stood on your doorstep or walked in or such. Never mind if they had bad intentions or not.
Even if shot 8 times and the intruder is unarmed.

Guns have no other purpose at all other than killing something.
Any gun other than a standard rifles has no other use except killing people specifically.

The stats are per population, not household remember....so many have multiple guns for one person plus some kids.

It's mad.

1440066 2017-10-03 03:55:00 P.J. you are a very very good read, love the way you are able to string a couple of words together and make a good story.

Handled a few firearms in the army but not the range you have in your possession.

Only allowed to handle the unloaded .38 service revolver.

Go well with the fishing.

You're raising "The Castle-Keep Act" there .

If someone defies signage, fences or verbal warnings, and that person represents a viable threat to a person in residence of that property so as to threaten great bodily harm or loss of life, then deadly force may be used .

In some states, this means: stepping onto private property, some states mean: actual entry by both feet into the home or more than 50% inside a window, door or other enclosure of the residence or place of occupancy .

Other states leave the Castle Keep act up to the court on a case-by-case decision .

In all cases, if any weapon or threatening device is in hand or immediate control of an interloper, a physical threat is considered as in the act of a forced entry for illegal purposes and may be countermet with deadly force if needed .

It's not so cut and dry . It varies in each state and may vary by county, city or municipality .

For instance . . . . if you shot a cat burglar in Anaheim, and he winds up outside the building . . . . drag the body back inside . That's self defense .
