I'll work on this in the AM - it looks like that space was very important - and SOMETHING happened. good or bad, I dunnow.

Tomorrow will tell.

G'nite, gents and ladies.

1439429 2017-09-20 07:22:00 Me I just plugged in an ethernet cable and used it to get the wi-fi drivers as per instructions. Temporarily relocated the PC into a location where it would reach. Crazy talk? dugimodo (138)
1439430 2017-09-21 02:35:00 I am right now ether-cabled to the router from the very unit with Ubuntu in it.

Question...where can I find the version number of this Ubuntu installation?

Right now trying to upgrade/update my Firefox browser since Ubuntu is throwing a hissy on the age of the current version.

I've got it downloaded and in the DOWNLOAD file area.... just having troubles from that point.

I bring in TERMINAL and I guess I have to go through that sudo apt-get stuff again - huh?

One thing - both wireless adapters now light up and I can 'see' them when I inquire in 'system>administration.network tools - there's both the Realtec 18187L and another wireless named: Windows Network, etc.

I know there's a motherboard installed wireless card here too and I've seen it somewhere in the searching queries I've been making in Ubuntu - but I cannot remember where.

1439431 2017-09-21 03:07:00 I think you already have the driver installed if network tools 'sees' the adapter KarameaDave (15222)
1439432 2017-09-21 03:15:00 Kinda what I thought.

Is it dangerous to have 2 wireless devices? I'd rather use the legacy unit with this 'puter and leave my Alpha for my WinXP-P 'puter - which runs very nicely still!

1439433 2017-09-21 03:32:00 Not dangerous as far as I know. KarameaDave (15222)
1439434 2017-09-21 03:40:00 OK - they both light up their little LEDs - although they are steady-on, not blinking and I cannot get the 'puter to switch to the wireless anyway.

Hmmmm. I wonder if I unplug the CAT from the 'puter and try to sign on to Google - would it be forced to work then?

1439435 2017-09-21 03:50:00 Yep try that. KarameaDave (15222)
1439436 2017-09-21 05:25:00 It cannot connect. SurferJoe46 (51)
1439437 2017-09-21 06:12:00 Version, maybe run lsb_release -a in terminal.

Really need to see your network settings so maybe run ifconfig or ip addr in terminal, if you're lucky you might be able to do ifconfig | pastebin and can post the link so we can see it.
