1439115 2017-09-13 05:36:00 How long do they last ? may be irrelevant. Even if av was 20years, will allways have a few that fail before then , like yours.

People want cheap,
people dont say I'll pay 5x for something built to last & thoroughly inspected & bench tested before at the factory

4.5 years , for a cheap TV, I wouldnt be too surprised that it failed.
Chances of getting a warranty repair would be zero , unless you are willing to go to disputes tribunal.

It could be fixed, but less & less are doing that sort of repair . The repair industry died , as people just went & bought new stuff because of the cost of repairs

Well was not a cheap TV in its day, but whats expensive to me, maybe cheap to someone else.
Just glad we keep our 25 year on TV that works good, with external Freeview....

1439116 2017-09-19 01:48:00 Low power LEDs do last a long time when driven at normal current levels, but LED backlights for LCDs use higher power LEDs which are driven quite hard, run hot, and thus have a much shorter lifespan.

In addition to that, a CCFL backlit LCD may have only 12 tubes but the same sized TV may have 50 LEDs or even more depending on design, so there are more points of failure. It only takes one dead LED out of dozens to shut everything down.

Thanks for the info, I know nothing about LED & TV's.

WE took telly in last Wednesday.
