| 1439481 | 2017-09-21 03:12:00 | I ask the Synaptic Package Manager to get all the updates I need via: RELOAD . It starts our OK, gets to #64 and barfs and then I get a page that says: Could not download all repository indexes :badpc: The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems . If available an older version of the failed index will be used . Otherwise the repository will be ignored . Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct . I definitely have network connections (or how did I get here?) and I've got Ubuntu running here - I even rebooted to make sure . Now I get this: = This release of Ubuntu is no longer supported = :badpc: You are about to upgrade to a version of Ubuntu that is no longer supported . | 1439482 | 2017-09-21 03:48:00 | OK so your system is old, and you need to configure software sources as the repository is not working. From synaptic you click on settings then repositories, a new window should appear that has the present ones in it.(screenshot from Linux Mint but it should be similar) If you click on one it will start to test the mirrors near you to find the fastest, do that for both main and base then close that window and click reload on the main synaptic window. |

| 1439486 | 2017-09-21 06:01:00 | The version you would be using would definitely be out of its life cycle so getting updates could be a problem. Very few i386 versions exist in Ubuntu's line which means others based on Ubuntu would have the same problem. I am wondering if you would be able to get your system specs, but I am not sure if you have the utilities for it. Maybe try in terminal: inxi -Fxxx | pastebin and then post the link here if it does work. Else you maybe better off with a distro more suited for that computer. I went away from Ubuntu when it felt bloaty and the interface just had too much going on. |
