| 631015 | 2008-01-16 10:10:00 | I see that Acer are doing a Linux laptop but only available from Dick Smith. www.dse.co.nz product code XC5822. They also have a $99 cash back from Acer so works out to $600! |

That's the Asus Eee PC which has been widely discussed on this forum. Acer is a different company. |

Acer is a different company. :p My excuse: did not have my coffee yet  OK, found the Acer: * Processor: Celeron M 540 - 1.86GHz, 1MB Cache, 533MHz FSB, 64-bit capable * RAM: 512MB DDR2-667(1 x 512MB) * HDD: 80GB 5400rpm SATA * Display: 14.1" WXGA CrystalBrite widescreen (1280 x 800) * Optical: DVD+CDRW Combo * Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 up to 358MB * Operating System: Linux www.dse.co.nz Seems a better deal to me, as long as you don't mind Linux instead of WinXP. |

| 631019 | 2008-01-16 19:36:00 | With LoseXP it should be $120 to compensate for the time it will take to purge the evil demon and de-sticker the case. The Linux version is (naturally) ready to go out of the box. ;) ;) |

| 631020 | 2008-01-16 20:41:00 | This sounds like the laptop advertised in Christchurch recently. I liked the claim that it weighed less than 2 kilograms. Also no hard drive to go wrong. Great specs and really just what I would like. But uses LINUX. Now all my programs are using Windows or DOS - I reckon I'm too stupid to learn and use another system, but what intrigued me was the fact that it was advertised as XP compatible. Hey whats that mean? I dashed round to Dick Smiths to find them reeling - they had easily sold the lot, it kept them busy. But like me they had not had the chance to play with one and were themselves puzzled by the claim XP compatible. Anybody used one yet - your reactions please. Tom |

| 631022 | 2008-01-16 22:03:00 | 'XP Compatible' generally means that you can put XP on it and it will work, if you so desire. It's just not the default OS and isn't included in the price. | Erayd (23) | ||
| 631023 | 2008-01-16 22:19:00 | Acer ASUS I'd avoid the Acer and go with the ASUS.  Still dissing the Acers. I have only sold one Asus laptop this year (so far) and three Acers. Guess which one I've had two problems with already? Hint: It isn't an Acer :D |
