630713 2008-01-16 07:22:00 Pal rang me,his puter was starting going to as far as it could then went to beginning again, anyway Rob built it so told him to ring him,he must be on hols,so without any more ado he took it to local repair chap, bill $120,asked him what problem was,he was told but didn't understand a word.
I would have asked here but it was gone b4 I had a chance.

630717 2008-01-16 17:03:00 I didn't understand a word of that.
He would switch his computer on,it would go through the start sequence up to where everything was loaded,at which point it would close down and start sequence again.
I hope that is clearer.
Re invoice,it says to repairs to computer,$120 including GST.

630718 2008-01-16 17:52:00 Given the lack of information I do not think $120 is unreasonable.

We do not know if any parts were replaced. If the Pal was told and could not understand then maybe get He/She to get it in writing, post the writing here and we may be able to interpret.

630719 2008-01-16 18:49:00 If invoice simply states 'repairs to computer' then you would have a hard time going back to them if the problem reoccurs or another related problem arises.

Get some documented details.

Thanks all, will suggest he gets more info .

All a bit vague I know, just that I wondered if perhaps I could have fixed, would he have been happy to give me a c note .

He was perfectly happy to part with the 120 .

630721 2008-01-16 19:08:00 Sounds like he had spyware or something.

What you said happens when you try and install SP2 on XP, when the system is full of spyware.

Or SP1 wasnt installed and he had something like Sasser.

630722 2008-01-16 19:20:00 $120.00 sounds reasonable - once again depending on what was done - work it out - Average charge rate for lots of places is $80.00 per hour or more per hour - so if the repair shop had it worked on for an 1 .5 hours theres your $120 + gst.

Some places charge even while its sitting there scanning.

Take on particular call out service
We offer an affordable service at a flat rate anywhere in the Wellington region.
$95 per hour (inclusive GST) - min. 1 hour And they do charge like that - I got a person call me after not being to happy about that company and the guy had left after 15 minutes.
