785077 2009-06-23 11:30:00 Umm, the original drivers (from ASUS) were installed 2.15. I decided to update them (got the drivers from Realtek 2.27, which are the latest. Just came out the other day). It kills DTS (that the other drivers installed). So, decided to uninstall the latest, and go back to the original drivers. Only prob is, the drivers unzip ok, they install OK, reboot, but device manager tells me the drivers are corrupt lol WTF. OK then, I uninstall the old and install the new again (only diff I can see in the new drivers, is it shows a HDMI icon for HDMI Audio (under Realtek HD Audio Manager, on the taskbar). Good. It lets you configure it if you're using HDMI. But, no DTS option

Now, the BIOS, there's an option in here to do with SPDIF and HDMI. Change it to SPDIF, when the HDMI cable is connected, the sound on the monitor works fine (Only prob is, the videocard doesnt have a connection for SPDIF on it (and its not connected to the SPDIF connection, on the mobo. so, buggered if I know HOW the sound is getting to the monitor, with the SPDIF option in the BIOS (the audio is onboard the videocard).

Anyway, change it to HDMI (which is what I thought it should be on). Reboot, the sound on the monitor (when you use the HDMI cable) doesnt work. So, has anyone actually managed to get HDMI Audio working properly..Its not the EASIEST thing to configure sometimes !

785078 2009-06-23 12:08:00 Probably all the damn DRM in it? Vecaren (14444)
785079 2009-06-23 12:10:00 ? I dont think so. It works now, but it sounds back to front Speedy Gonzales (78)
785080 2009-06-23 21:33:00 I solved all my HDMI sound problems by not using it. Using my SB Audigy2 ZS sound card.

785081 2009-06-23 21:50:00 I dont use it all the time. I just tried it last night, to see if it would work. Its normally connected to the Xbox. I think I'll just use the DVI. The sound still works either way Speedy Gonzales (78)

Rule 1.
Don't fix it if it isn't broken.

785083 2009-06-23 22:34:00 Yer well, I thought it would give me extra options etc. Guess I was wrong :p I wont worry about it anyway. Sound still works Speedy Gonzales (78)
785084 2009-06-24 10:48:00 Audio through HDMI is one less cable to the monitor, that's the reason I like it.

It only works if the hardware supports it though, I thought HDMI always would but soon found out that both monitor and the PC hardware is sometimes shipped with video-only support, so from now on I'm going to be careful with what I buy.

785085 2009-06-24 11:07:00 I finally got back to the old version . I uninstalled the ATI drivers and realtek drivers, removed the rest of the entries with drivercleaner, glary utils, then deleted the rest in the registry / and their folders . Then reinstalled them again (since the ATI drivers give you the option to install the HDMI Audio drivers) .

Both the monitor and the videocard support HDMI . I think the only time you may come across probs (with DRM), is if you use a DVI to HDMI adapter . I'm not playing dvds (at the mo) on this PC . I use the HDMI for the Xbox And if I want to play DVD's, I'll either play them through the Xbox, or the stereo .

And then only if the people that put together the DRM enabled that bit of it. I haven't heard of anyone doing that, so far anyway.
