784575 2009-06-22 07:30:00 I want to add a 17" monitor so i can run a full window app such as a game or movie and do something on the other screen. I'm not sure if my card is dual screen compatible, when i go to screen display there are no 2 screens like there was before i installed my graphics card (before i got my card i had integrated chipset and it showed 2 screens when there is only 1 VGA input on my mobo).

Is the dual monitors controlled in the nvidia control panel? Or is my card not compatible with dual screens. (it has 2 dvi inputs)

I got a 19" widescreen monitor am i able to use dual with a 17" monitor or does both monitor have to be at the same resolution?

784576 2009-06-22 07:33:00 Try plugging in a 2nd monitor and see if it detects.
If the card has two inputs then it supports dual monitors.

One thing about this setup and games, if you play a game that relies on your mouse hitting the edge of the screen to turn or move the camera etc it wont work on the side you have your mouse hopping to monitor two, it can be annoying.

784578 2009-06-22 08:16:00 So what graphics card have you got?

You can only use the on board or the card but not both.

Does the card have dual outputs?

784579 2009-06-22 08:33:00 Nvidia 7900 GTO, it has 2 DVI inputs but it doesn't show 2 screens in the display settings. There use to be 2 screens when i only had my ATI onboard graphics. On my computer specs it says add an ATI pcie card to use 2 monitors. whellington (15030)

Worth noting though that this is only on some motherboards - many will let you use both the onboard and a card at the same time.

Note that my comments are based on my experiences under Linux. I'm not sure whether Windows will let you do this, although it should, as it's happy enough using two cards.

Try rebooting with the 2 monitors plugged in. Should be detected automatically

784582 2009-06-22 11:05:00 Yeah, as others have already said, it will usually only show the dual monitor options if you actually plug a second monitor in. I would be extremely surprised if your card didn't support dual monitors. ad_267 (6193)

Well on the howstuffworks 'How to set up dual monitors' youtube vid, the guy said to check if your card supports dual monitors go to display settings and there should be 2 screens.

On a side note, is there something wrong with my card? it seem to have declocked itself

784584 2009-06-22 12:58:00 Don't trust howstuffworks - it can be useful, but there's also a lot of inaccurate information on there. Take everything with a grain of salt. Erayd (23)
