| 784331 | 2009-06-21 09:30:00 | Hi. I bought a new PC (I built it) around February sometime, installed Windows XP Professional, and all was well. It ran without a hitch, and was so smooth with everything, I was really impressed.:nerd: A couple of days ago, it suddenly stopped being the perfect pc. Windows came on, with the lowest resolution, lowest colour settings, etc., so I figured it was my video card. So I restarted my PC (This has happened before, and all I did was restart, and it was fine), and Windows froze in the middle of doing the blue marquee loading thing. I tried repairing Windows, but that was a temporary solution. I put my XP disc in, clicked install Windows, then repair. It did a bit of important looking things, and eventually restarted the PC. Windows loaded, and then had the new Windows installation screen, and I let that run. When it finished, Windows was working fine, except that I had to reinstall Microsoft products like IE 8, Windows Media Player 11, and Windows Messenger. IE 8 counldn't install, because of a file it couldn't download, so I downloaded it, and all was well. For the night. The next day, I switched on the PC, only to have the afore mentioned marquee freeze thing. I tried all of the above again, which didn't work. I went into the repair screen, did a chkdsk (check disk), and bootfix. Chkdsk came up with something, and I ran it again after the bootfix to make sure it was OK, and it came up clean. I have run a defrag not to long ago, so all the discs are fine. My PC specs: Intel CPU Quad Core 2.33Ghz HIS 8400 Series 512MB Video Card Asus P5Q Motherboard USB Mouse & Keyboard 120GB & 20GB Hard drives D-Link Wireless Adapter 430W Power Supply (Supplied with Case (Cooler Master)) Any other specs can be supplied. Any help would be appreciated. |

| 784332 | 2009-06-21 09:54:00 | Click start/run type in eventvwr <press Enter> look through the application and system logs at the time the problem happened, see if there are any error messages - if do double click them to open, copy/paste back the complete error message contents. With the error message open you can press ctrl+C to capture the message - then paste back here. Edited: try starting the PC in safe mode , keep tapping F8 on startup, select Safe mode, see if it still fails. |

| 784338 | 2009-06-21 11:07:00 | Is daemon tools installed? If it is uninstall it. I think thats what stpd belongs to. It could be playing up / stuffed. The browser one is easy to fix. BUT, you have to go to start / run type regedit. Then go to hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\servic es\browser\parameters. Change Maintainserver to false (double click on to change it to false). Reboot Hmm the 3rd one looks like wherever the SQL folder is, its compressed (why its there, if you dont use it, I dont know). The 4th one maybe related to daemontools / the sptd error. |
