| 784142 | 2009-06-20 13:18:00 | Im looking at getting a 1tb HDD and using it as a slave(well you know, not as an os)... if i do get it and decide later to get another 1tb hdd for a raid array does it have to be of the same model? and is there a noticeable difference in speed? Heres some possibilitys of my new config Current: 320Gb WD Caviar... 40.6GB C drive 257GB D drive Future 320 C 1TB D or 320+320 C 1TB + 1TB D???? Good idea? waste of time?!? what do you think..... |

(en.wikipedia.org) ( scroll down the page for listings) I just had a customers PC last week - the Guy who built the PC Originally (not me) set it to Mirror RAID 2 x 250GB Drives - which in theory meant if One Drive failed the other would carry on. BUT in this case the main drive became completely corrupted, and un -bootable, which was mirrored to the second drive :groan: "GREAT" two drives both with knackered / identical problems. :rolleyes: |

Perhaps he should build a file server Thats EXACTLY what I did, reinstalled the OS / Programs etc, one drive the main, the other a Slave ( moved the document files to the salve) - AND installed WHS for file serving, and daily backups, (4 pc's in total) along with daily backups to another removable HDD for the main working documents from the server. :thumbs: |
