783912 2009-06-20 03:45:00 Hey was just looking at my processes running on my Vista SP2 laptop and noticed that I have 15!!! svchost.exe processes running.
Why do I have so many running? Any way I can decrease them?

783913 2009-06-20 03:52:00 Windows runs them normally, however I have heard of viruses running as svchost.exe.

As for a way to decrease them, make sure you scan your computer with an up to date virus scanner (norton doesn't count).

783914 2009-06-20 05:44:00 SVCHOST is in charge of services, and it can't run all services under svchost or else it would crash...

Therefore it groups them, one svchost for all services related to the UI, on svchost for all services related to security etc.

Its absolutely normal. You can check out http://www.blackviper.com/ for services you can disable.

Cheers
