| 630950 | 2008-01-18 10:44:00 | C1 appears to have tried to stop the dog from killing Peck by, of course, killing the dog . I would have done the same thing - if a larger dog was kicking my dog's ass, and I had a gun, I'd kill the attacking dog . My dog is like my brother, albeit black, walks on four legs and steals steaks when no one's looking . but from what i can discern, that bird was as good as dead . now a dog fighting a dog is different from a dog eating a chicken . as susch a dog vs dog fight to the death would indicate a seriously dangerous dog which i would shoot . a dog chasing a chicken is what you would expect from any animal higher in the food chain than the bird . so, assuming i found a dog attacking my pet chicken who i love as much as my dog: if i found the attacking dog starting the attack, i'd use the rifle to club the effing thing into unconciousness . if i found the attacking dog finishing off my mortally wounded pet i'd shoot the both of them, and then later wish i'd not shot the attacking dog due to the legal repurcussions fact is, in the thread, chicken one sounds to be like a somewhat unstable character, and imho his response to the dog was a gross overreaction given this unique set of circumstances . how did the dog get the chicken anyway? was there no fence keeping the bird in and dogs out? what if a cat came and killed it? what if he missed the event? could one not ask why the chicken was not in a coop? killing the dog made no bloody difference to him but as a vent for his anger - meanwhile causing grief for the dog's family . a very selfish action when you think about it . |

The owner came running out and tried to 'smash my head in' for killing his dog, the idiot should have learnt to fight before picking one. Anyway 18 stitches later down my leg we later learnt he had been starving and beating his dogs, he was trying to 'toughen' his dogs up. the neighbours dobbed him in as they were fed up as well. |

I just hope everyone knows the 'real' victim was the dog. Ouch for the leg though Rob. |

| 630953 | 2008-01-18 19:09:00 | Peck was dead when you found him, correct? There would have been no point in killing the dog when Peck already died. wrong.......at least that particular dog wont go on to kill some other poor animal who also has a right to life..........or perhaps even a child ! |

Yeah Rob you shouldnt have killed the dog that was attacking you. In Southland they must be a bunch of townies. In real NZ (Auckland and Raglan) if dogs are attacking they get taken taken out. C1 |
