630931 2008-01-18 02:14:00 Motorbyclist !

You are wrong !

The thought of being caught DOES NOT deter people from doing anything.
Look at all the people you see in court for 10 or 20 driving or burglary offences

good point, i forgot there are some out there are too stupid learn from mistakes

what i was thinking was, why bother worrying about a punishment if you don't get caught? of course i forget that most of these crims aren't thinking

630932 2008-01-18 02:20:00 I was only talking about hypothetically carrying a loaded gun. I have a gun licence its the most important thing I have in the world and I aint going to lose it carrying a loaded gun in SA.
I hate !@#$% dogs killed one last year after it killed on of my chickens on my property. But killed it with a sharpened bit of concrete reinforcing steel.
Had a collar on it dragged it to park and buried it at night.

wait, by 'SA' are we talking south africa or south australia here? cause i'm getting a little worried... and why bury it in a park? it'd be a bit less conspicuous if you buried it in your own garden rather than digging a hole in a public park at night wouldn't it?

and was killing someone's pet/farm dog really worth the chicken? and in such a brutal way when you sound as if you have a gun? just see where the dog runs home to and go swap your dead chicken for one of the dog owners' chickens. it's not like they're hard to breed anyway

on my farm when we had stray dogs come over we just pulled out the slug gun and shot pellets at them while they ran for the fence. they never needed telling twice that's for sure

You sound like the sort of person thats never been to South Auckland and simply over hypes what they see on the news till they actually beleive it. There will always be creeps where ever you live, in the last few days we've had a murder in Taupo and a rapist in Hamilton. Haven't had a muder in South Auckland for a while, like any town people of a similar nature normally live in the same area. Thus it makes sense that more violent crimes happen there as Aucland has around 1/4 of New Zealands population.

SA is South Auckland.

Why did I bury the killer dog in the park because the park is next door and wasteland. The next victim of the dog could have been a little kid.

My chicken was a pet she was called Peck she used to run out to my truck everytime I came home, I had a bag of wheat especialy for her on the passenger side floor.
When ever I see a grain of wheat when cleaning my truck now it brings me to tears.
The dog had a quicker death than Peck who died slowly after being played (tossed in the air) with by the dog.
So how dare you think that killer dog has a right to live over my pet chicken there will only ever be one Peck she was a special animal.

The problem is that people go from "punishment isn't a deterrence" to believing that somehow you should lessen the punishment (shorter sentences, early parole) and focus on rehabilitation.

Punishment and rehabilitation should not be linked. Try rehabilitation by all means, but that should have no influence on someone being punished for their crime and doing the amount of time that society feels is appropriate.

Punishment is punishment. Even if you truly have been transformed into a pearly white human being via the magic of rehabilitation, you still need to take the punishment for the crime. In fact, if you have been transformed, you should accept the need to be punished even more ...

If a dog was killing or killed my dog, I'd kill it - guess I get your point now we know there was emotional attachment

So you just admitted on a public forum that you killed this dog.
Which is illegal.

Pet chicken or not, you are not allowed to kill it, you are supposed to report it so the proper authorities deal with it.

And yes the SPCA will be interested in you.

I have had pets killed by wandering dogs, never hurt one of them. I did what you are supposed to do. End of problem.

630939 2008-01-18 04:45:00 Our pet chicken called Brown was also killed by a dog, she used to saunter into the house and sit on the couch and watch TV with us.

One day the youngest boy heard a ruckus outside and went to see what was going on. Inside the outside shed he found Brown still alive with a dog eating out her side and back end, the boy said when the dog saw him it smiled.

Because of the children we had to take Brown to the vet but there was no hope so the chicken had to be put down, cost a fortune lol.
