631045 2008-01-21 04:07:00 Haha I wasn't moaning about it - I was just curious. I figured that your quote was the correction to whatever cock-up you had made, as you'd said something had gone wrong (so not outside the edit window) but left the quote. All is now made clear :D

631046 2008-01-21 09:16:00 Wow. Very impressive indeed. Makes me really want one now. Even if I have to learn Linus. But as you point out there doesn't seem to be any real learning involved.
Except the E's in EeePC stand for "Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play"
And it really is easy to lean :) In fact, coz everything you generally need is right there, its brilliant :D

If it indeed can use the Debian repositories, it is capable of being hugely customisable
ayup :D

And ubuntu repo's seem good too

631047 2008-01-21 21:18:00 Well I have handled one now. Dick Smiths had one in stock and let try it. Unfortunately it had no batteries in but even so I was really impressed. And Sooo light.
I was wrong about one thing. It does have a hard drive - OK its a flash card but it is 2gb. Not big but my first DOS computer only had 30mg.
Which makes me wonder. I have no disks for XP but several for Windows95 & 98 - and that is a OS I was quite happy with and runs all my wanted programs.
Is 2gb big enough to install win98 - well it must be because I have an old 486 that only has 520mg hard drive and it runs Win98 quite happily (although a bit slow!!).
That leaves me with some more questions.
(1) Even though I have no real need for it how long will it be before I get one?
(2) What batteries does it use?
(3) If I got one and wanted to use Win98 is it possible to install Win98 on a separate memory stick ?
(4) Looking into my photos I have another question but I will address that in the other forum (ACDSee question).

My local Dick Smiths is not a big one but had already sold two of these computers on the day I was there.
Boy what a market!

631049 2008-01-21 21:24:00 If the BIOS will allow it, maybe a Win install could go on an SD card so you can hide it if your friends turn up to see the thing? - ;) R2x1 (4628)
