2009-06-24 23:01:00 | Are you able to telnet to the outbound mail (SMTP) servers you have specified in you account settings?- Open cmd prompt and type: telnet "smtpservername" 25 Please let us know what the result is ;) I get a 'server ready" response from smtp.xtra.co.nz 25 but no response at all from smtp.orcon.net.nz 25 I get responses on pop3 for both Xtra and Orcon from port 110 I hope this is beginning to narrow things down, it is the most positive outcome I have had so far. Still haven't had time to locate the manual for the router to check the MTU. Work is very pressing and I'm doing very long hours (6:00am to midnight) every day. Cheers Billy 8-{) :waughh:

2009-06-24 23:54:00 | Just recovered a document that might help. It dates back so far that I have no recollection of the incident or events that gave rise to it, but if anything makes sense I'll follow recommendations. I haven't time to play speculatively so a professional opinion would be appreciated. I assume that 'x secure pw id' etc means check those boxes. Outlook Setup Data xxxxx: pop3.xtra.co.nz / smtp.xtra.co.nz / pw xxxx / x secure pw id / x server authentication Out-port 25 / In-port 110 / no ssl Alternative settings if sending problems arise: smtp.xtra.co.nz becomes send.xtra.co.nz. may have to enable authentication: "use same settings as incoming mail server" enable SSl, in-port 995 out-port 465. If it doesn't work go back, untick SSL, in-port to 110, out-port to 587. Telecom's recommended fall-back if neither of these work is to revert to original settings (as currently being used). Bus: pop3.orcon.net.nz / smtp.xtra.co.nz / pw xxxxx / x secure pw id / x server authentication Out-port 25 / In-port 110 / no ssl Freenet: pop3.free.net.nz / smtp.xtra.co.nz / pw xxxxx / x secure pw id / x server authentication Out-port 25 / In-port 110 / no ssl PF1: pop.gmail.com / smtp.xtra.co.nz / pw xxxx / x secure pw id / x server authentication Out-port 465 / In-port 995 / ssl required Cheers Billy 8-{)

2009-06-25 03:00:00 | OK I've changed Ports and logged on to the router but can't see any option to change the MTU, it must be hidden deeper in the config settings. I recorded the original settings when I installed it and they are all the same as original with the exception of the lan subnet mask. That was set as 255.255.255.0 but is now showing 255.0.0.0. WAN is 255.255.255.255 I know nothing about this parameter so can anybody tell me if this could cause a send failure? Doesn't look like it to me but as I said, I know nothing about its functions. Cheers Billy 8-{) PS while I'm about it, since I've reloaded firefox I've got all the ads back so where do I look for the adblocker. I can't see it in FF tools etc so perhaps it was a download?

2009-06-25 03:04:00 | Click on the WAN button from the left vertical menu. Find the "MTU" towards the bottom set it to 1492

2009-06-25 04:34:00 | No wonder I couldn't find MTU, it is actually MRU in the WAN menu and is already set to 1492 . It seems to me that it has to be a router issue though, for both the main box and my laptop to show the same problem . I tried the alternate Outlook settings that I posted a while back and they were no help, they didn't work either . So where I stand at present is that I have full inwards email and internet connectivity but no outwards email to Xtra or Orcon, which really rules them out as culprits as well . So anyway, is the subnet mask an issue? I can't remember off-hand where to look in the computer to find what setting I have for my LAN Router gets rebooted every morning btw, it is always off overnight . Cheers Billy 8-{)

2009-06-25 05:40:00 | What model D-Link do you have All the ones I have ever seen have MTU under Wan Ideally MTU and MRU should both be the same Go to this link, it will tell you what your MTU is set to. http://www.speedguide.net/ Select tcp/ip Analyzer from the left

| 784763 | 2009-06-25 07:23:00 | Interesting, after a period of hours in my outbox a stalled test email was sent (and duly received). I tried again so there's another one that's still sitting there now after 30 minutes. I assume from the lack of comment that the subnet mask difference is not an issue?
