630382 2008-01-16 00:45:00 My God, a laptop with such bad specs, no optical drives and NO Ethernet adapter for all those timers when you don't have wireless internet and mono speakers for US$1799???

Yeah, this is definitely only for Apple consumers.

630383 2008-01-16 01:04:00 I read about it on the macrumours forum and the people there were going on about how it shouldn’t come with a keyboard at all. It should basically be a large iPhone which can be docked or something.
I’m thinking, why remove all functionality of a Laptop COMPUTER to make it as small as possible? These people seem to forget that there are actually people who use a computer for things other than music and movies now days.

I just don’t think that “look how small we made it, pat our self on the backs” is how they should be going, they should focus on being able to make smaller components ect to put MORE functionality in laptops. I mean I’d never buy a computer without a keyboard anyway, so I don’t see any point in them getting smaller than they already are IMO.

630384 2008-01-16 02:04:00 It does seem strange that there is no ethernet connection but Apple usually think things through very carefully. Remember when apple dropped the floppy drive from the imacs years before it happened on the PCs.

There are many people with laptops who have never had an ethernet cable anywhere near it and I would like to think that Apple have researched the market and found that this situation is acceptable to a certain percentage of potential buyers.

I think you are missing a tiny point, while very expensive and would only appeal to a small customer base. The price is much the same as any other utra portable notebook.

630386 2008-01-20 20:27:00 Hey guys, I was at the keynote this year and managed to get some photos on the expo floor afterwards for those interested: www.maccrazy.net

The MacBook Air is very impressive when held in real life. It is very light. Up until now I have put off buying a laptop, because of the weight. If you have to lug it around all day in your backpack, loosing the optical drive is great (I use the one in my iMac only once every six or so months) and lack of dedicated graphics is a small sacrifice. For general use it is pretty powerful though, with a 1.6 or 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB RAM. :)
