784153 2009-06-21 04:18:00 You'd be lost without WHS wouldnt you wainuitech  Its damn good software when its setup correctly - use the resources available to make life easier at a reasonable cost .

Had MS call me multi times trying to sell Server 2003 /08 - Idiot MS reps dont understand that the average home user has no need for it, or willing to pay $$$$$$$ .

Edited: @ Zapper --- what are you actually trying to achive Via a raid setup?

If its backups then theres lots safer ways to do that . If its performance dont expect a huge sudden increase . ????

784154 2009-06-21 04:53:00 I have some Intel SSD's on my wish list for my SQL server data files....even 8 x 300Gb SAS 15k RAID 0 couldnt come close to the random read of a single SSD....however sequental perfomance isnt as good as a RAID 0 array of 4 disks.... SolMiester (139)
784155 2009-06-21 04:54:00 why not just get a raptor? They're an easy way of getting whatever speed your after hueybot3000 (3646)
784156 2009-06-21 05:54:00 Wish I could afford it

Pity it's not available at retail because it would be a nice way to recycle an old PC. My WHS was the cheapest new box I could buy at the time, I think the WHS software was $250 or so to add, total system was about $1200 which was mostly for the hard drives.

784157 2009-06-21 07:38:00 Im looking @ getting a WD caviar SE from pconlineshop.co.nz for my raid array.... costs $114 ~ an extra 40 triples my current setup but i dont get the speed.... or maybe i should go for a seagate 7200.13 1TB hd w/ 32mb cache? any suggestions... ZapperBoy10647 (11988)
784158 2009-06-21 08:18:00 Decide what you want

The little extra speed or space or backup

Well here you are effectively back at the first post you made.
A choice between a 1 terabyte drive or not. What you do with either drive is over to you.

It seems that you do not want to take advice from pctek anyway regarding a raid array as you state that "pconlineshop.co.nz for my raid array" which leads me to believe you are set on having a redundant array of independent disks regardless.

I also think that you do not know the differences in partitions, dynamic disks, primary vs extended partitions, logical vs physical drives and etc.

What is most important to you?

Is it speed, backup, storage space or something like bragging rights?

~ Ill just use a RAID0 for now.
~ realized how confused my post is; i was saying aloud about the price difference between the $114 320gb HDD and the $150ish 1TB Seagate.

-Thanks for the help guys.
~P.S will my asus m2n-mx-se plus handle a raid array?!? - im looking at upgrading that soon but hopefully not this soon.

~Now the choice. Monitor or HDD first.... oh i have problems ><

784161 2009-06-21 08:37:00 I wouldnt setup a up RAID for braggin rights, its more likely to cause you embarassment as everyone elses computers run sweet and your left screwin around with hard drives hueybot3000 (3646)
