| 629594 | 2008-01-12 03:13:00 | Read all about it: bits.blogs.nytimes.com While nothing is definite at this stage it does look like the last two major studios backing HD DVD — NBC Universal and Paramount — will switch to Blu-ray. Another article: www.variety.com |

| 629596 | 2008-01-12 03:30:00 | The "war" so far has hardly started, It takes place on the retail floor, All the backyard deals mean nothing. So far regular DVD is winning by miles. The consumer is largly content, Everyone else is just blowing millions and millions of dollars on a unwanted format. If it was wanted, Sales would have dictated who was to win. |

| 629597 | 2008-01-12 03:40:00 | Sony have mentioned special Blu Ray movie releases for their portable PSP, which then can be copied in to the PSP 3 memory stick. Also Ritek have announced a disk to burn Bly Ray on one side and HD-DVD on the other... | kahawai chaser (3545) | ||
| 629598 | 2008-01-12 03:49:00 | I'm betting on bluray since I just got a PS3. Although Hi Def wasn't the reason I got it, gaming wasn't either. originally was looking at an appleTv, but while it did what it well, it didn't do much. Very pleased so far using the PS3 as a media center. | plod (107) | ||

Most on the shop floor are quite content to just buy ordinary DVD. Its really only the fanboys who are at war |

| 629600 | 2008-01-12 07:25:00 | According to my feeds, New Line Cinema and HBO home video has also just switched exclusively to Blu-ray format. Just need to convince the public I guess to switch from DVD to the higher def Blu-ray... | kahawai chaser (3545) | ||
| 629601 | 2008-01-12 08:50:00 | From what I have read, Using a dvd player that upscales a normal DVD picture to HD resolutions (these are the players with HDMI output) gives a picture so good that people couldn't tell the difference. Although the size and quality of the TV would have an impact, and of course how anal the viewer is. MY EYES ,MY EYES, I SAW A JAGGIE, THIS IS HORRIBLE, MY POOR EYES, THEY ARE BLEEDING, KILL THIS LOW RESOLUTION OUTPUT BEFORE IT KILLS SOMEONE, I HAVE ALREADY BEEN BLINDED. |

Well after watching casino royal on blu-ray and watching diehard 4 on normal dvd using the same player and the same tv. I have to say they both look great. Unless I can see the same movie being played side by side on the two formats I'm going to with hold judgement |

| 629603 | 2008-01-12 09:13:00 | With your PS3? Made by the company pushing blue-ray? Can I put 2 and 2 together for you? If it upscales DVD at all (which I doubt), There is no way in hell they will configure there device to give a picture anywhere close to Blue-Ray. What you would have to do is use a Standalone DVD player with a good upscaler outputting through HDMI. There is no suggestion that HD isn't higher quality then DVD, Just that a Good upscaler can produce a comparable image. However, I haven't seen it for myself, So Im not willing to lay any big bets. I will however buy a new cheap DVD player that outputs through HDMI rather then invest in a HD or Blue-Ray player. But that could change. |
