| 632657 | 2008-01-22 00:05:00 | Hey all, I have a friend whos comming back to NZ from Perth (hes a NZ citizen) with his NZ passport this weekend. His drink bottle must have leaked on it at some stage and it has slight damage on the front page - in a picture he showed me it was slightly smeared down the bottom - but all was still easily legible, just slight ink run. Has anyone had to travel with something similar? |

| 632659 | 2008-01-22 00:34:00 | Pre-911: a passport coming out of the washing machine got me home from Canada. Post-911: Probably not. Check with the authorities though since it's only trans-tasman. |

If he were to apply for another passport, hed be paying hundreds to get it (and it probably wouldnt make it to aus on time) and an emergency travel document was something like $620, again, flag that. Hes going to try his luck as its all he can do really I hope he doesnt get out of Australia but denied access in Auckland! Its a long walk back to Australia. |

| 632664 | 2008-01-22 20:37:00 | If he completes the form on that first web site i gave you and signs the declaration then he should not have a problem So does declaring that it was damaged and filling out all the information give him enough evidence to get through the airport? Or will he still have to send away for an emergency travel document? Sorry if Im being daft and missing the point the whole international travel situation confuses the hell outta me. Thanks for the advice. |

| 632665 | 2008-01-22 21:05:00 | The declaration might be enough to get home on but eventually the passport will need renewed if it is damaged badly enough. It is an Emergency Travel Document. Valid 1 month. www.safetravel.govt.nz I have had a temporary passport for a week when i worked in the UK but there most times my company could get me a new passport in a few hours, as most times i was back on the road to Europe the following day. (Tour Bus driver). Your best way is to phone up the passport department in Wellington. http://www.safetravel.govt.nz should be a link there somewhere to passports. You might be on hold for a while but it should tell you what you need to know. |

It was only when coming back to NZ last week that she was finally told to get a new one, and hers was a total mess with peeling photopage and all!! No, she was not well endowed or otherwise equipped to distract immigration officials' attention either (looks more like Metla actually, though that might be a little unfair to Metla). :D Cheers Billy 8-{) |
