632523 2008-01-21 08:52:00 Replacing the 8600GTS (according to the article), The 8800GS scores a lovely 9540 3DMark06 score at 1280x1024 with a heavily overclocked E6600.

Costing only $149-179 USD and around $300 NZD for the 384MB version. The 384MB version is approximately 75% as powerful as the 8800GT. The 768MB version oddly has higher clock speeds .etc.

Worth my $300? HELL YES!

For $70 more it seems fair until you see that a 8800GT for $369 is made by the worst retailer ever, PALIT!

The first decent retailer on that list is Gigabyte and that costs $420

The 8800gs is also a heavily overclocked alpha dog edition by XFX.

Have you ever actually owned a Palit card? They've actually got a very good reputation and constantly receive positive reviews. The Palit 8800GT comes with aftermarket cooling which makes it a pretty good buy.

632529 2008-01-22 00:17:00 I have had ugly and noisy palit cards with terrible bundles >< CaptainVincent (76)
632530 2008-01-22 00:30:00 From the reviews I've seen, Palit seems to be making a good name for themselves. I remember their 7900GS and the unique Palit HSF made it possible to OC the 7900GS to the highest frequencies I've seen.

The 8800GS seems like a card that closes the gap between 8600GTS and 8800GT/S. Looks like a decent buy if you only have $300 and not much else.

So you expect the cheapest card on the market to come with an awesome bundle? Perhaps its time to readjust your expectations. Have you considered that Palit are able to keep their prices down by not supplying a bundle?

All the Palit cards i've seen or owned either used the reference design or a have an aftermarket cooler which is superior to the reference design. Your noisy fan could have been faulty or simply unavoidible due to high heat output.

632532 2008-01-22 02:07:00 I was explaining why the plait 8800gt card was cheap, Because it has a crappy bundle. I was comparing it to a 8800GS Alpha Dog Edition made by a top of the line retailer. My point was 8800GS is a real good buy? CaptainVincent (76)
