632369 2008-01-21 03:38:00 I've been using National Bank's Thoroughbred Visa for a number of years now. Been very happy with it, and their staff have been very helpful. They also have a generous cashback rewards program, which I think is $1 for every $100 you spend.

I think I saw an ad somewhere which said that they are fee-free for students on their tertiary package, though it might be worth checking with them on that.

632370 2008-01-21 04:10:00 Kiwibank have a Mastercard/creditcard and you pay no annual fees unless you dont use it for three months. Their interest rate is 15.5% lakewoodlady (103)
632371 2008-01-21 05:29:00 Kiwibank would be my way too .. for those who don't need heaps of cash .. and not into point schemes.

For the cheq/sav accounts just get what is free. But get more details because some places may be no monthly fee but they may say any internet or tele transactions to other pple will cost you per transaction .. aka: free is not always free ..

The National Bank cash back thing, you have to spend a certain amount until you can excercise that option for cash back (I think).

Just checked my latest statement. If you spend between $2000-$7999 you get 0.5% cashback. If you spend between $8000-$30000 you get 1% cashback.

632373 2008-01-21 08:14:00 Have westpak gold card and National visa. No difference between them. And
no problems with either.

Just pay them off in full before due date. Don't get trapped with their usuorous interest rates.

632374 2008-01-21 08:33:00 Bank direct offers one at about 11%. But with all low interest cards watch out for the high admin fees that go with it. wmoore (6009)
632375 2008-01-21 09:12:00 Jack has the only sensible way to handle any credit card "Pay it off in full before the due date" otherwise you will find it the most expensive cash you will ever borrow. (Unless you are silly enough to use loan sharks). CliveM (6007)
632376 2008-01-21 09:21:00 TIP: ALWAYS pay the card off EVERY month without fail.

I checked the consumer site. For a low use, low limit card it is probably reasonably pointless going for rewards so you really need to look at the fees.

The only card without an annual fee is the Kiwibank Mastercard Zero. Other cards have fees from $18 upwards.

The interest rate should be totally irrelevant to anyone who uses their card properly but, just in case you do foul up one month, this card also has the lowest rate of 15.9%.

We use our card for everything - home, business, Mum's shopping... (and pay it off automatically monthly) so rewards are relevant. We'd probably be better with the ASB card (better rewards I think) but laziness and habit have us using the BNZ one for Flybuys. Their web site sucks.

632377 2008-01-21 09:22:00 Or work your butt off and pay those fees ASAP without a Credit card.

I did. Wasn't hard.
Just boring.
