633165 2008-01-23 23:30:00 Looks like I'm gonna be going for a Corolla then.

Any particular ones? There are FX GTs etc etc etc.....?

Basic.
No electric windows, no aircon, no mags, no anything.

They belong to the non-boyracer lot, so less chance of it being thrashed, and less things to go wrong with it.

Like you have a choice anyway, you buy sub $1500 cars you look for minimal problems, no rust and thats it.

Take a mechanic with you to check it out properly.

633166 2008-01-23 23:35:00 Corona Story

its Amazing what a little bit of Preventative maintenance can do aye? :D

i wish a mate of mine would get his car a bloody wheel alignment - you let go of the steering wheel at 70km and it makes a dive to the left towards that lovely looking ditch as if it was bloody magnetized :groan: and he complains his tires are abnormally worn "get a wheel alignment that will fix the wear issues!!!" "nah! it cant be that! i just have to buy a set of tires that are a LOT more expensive so they wont wear as bad"

if he complains about it anymore i might just have to hit him

i love the FX GT corollas :D

16 or 20 valves of 1600CC Craziness

but yeah they are sought after by boy racers (like me :o ) so if you are going the FXGT route go for the one that has the factory mags (no stupid 18" mags that wreck the already brilliant handling :P) and the Quiet sounding engine with clean oil and no knocks or bangs or blue smoke being blown out the back and you should be alright

Try looking for a 1994 Ford Laser 1500, no AC, or electric windows etc, BUT has not failed her since she got it. That book about lemon cars etc rated the Laser very very highly!

633173 2008-01-24 10:40:00 Oh, and as a sidenote:

Anybody interested in a 94 Honda Ascot CB? It's got a couple of dents, flew through its WOF yesterday no probs and quite a pleasure to drive.

633174 2008-01-26 01:44:00 A good reliable car for under $1000.
Either a miracle or an oxymoron.
