632093 2008-01-21 09:39:00 I just thought maybe a well implemented clause in registrations would be a better prevention than cure, with out stopping the fundamentals of this message board.

Really Spam here hasn't been an issue for me as per se, I was welcoming a discussion on topic and my basis for the discussion was less spamming = less work for the mods. But now it’s palpable that it’s not an issue for them.

632094 2008-01-21 09:40:00 And what about people like SurferJoe? PF1 members on holiday? Random helpful overseas members?

I am talking about people 'signing up' for an account, so members on holiday could still access it, as they would already be authentitcated. It is a NZ forum, so maybe the cost of no spam, is no overseas people signing up. The way around this could be some form of manually checking the overseas person signing up that they are a real user, and not a spammer. Or the overseas person could get a NZ friend to set up an account for them. I am not taking about blocking international access, just international signups. What do other major forums do?

632095 2008-01-21 10:49:00 I dunno, goto forums.gentoo.org & signup? ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
632096 2008-01-21 11:15:00 Yeah, spam on the PF1 forums is relatively low. An extra tool at the moderators disposal isn't a bad idea though.

The vBulletin mini-mod Prevent Spam Posts (www.vbulletin.org) puts any posts of a new user (less than 5 posts, say) into the moderation queue (and out of the main forum) if it contains "blacklisted words". I'm sure the mods could come up with a solid list of word's to blacklist. "Sale" and "buy" come to mind.

- Users with less than 5 posts will need to have their threads and replies approved by a moderator.
- More moderators.

Yes more moderators, I could be one because I am in the UK and I could
