631988 2008-01-20 15:38:00 I avoid most nz flicks now, one person will make a descent flick and a thousand others will make f grade copies.

I did like pre LOTR Peter Jackson films though.

631989 2008-01-20 18:58:00 Since Greven did not define "NZ Film". My assumption would be totally New Zealand. Written, Directed, NZ Actors, NZ Locations, NZ Editing, NZ Funding etc etc etc.

A lot of films mentioned here would not qualify under those definitions.

Throwing all those definitions aside opens the topic wide open. We have NZ Directors and Writers working in USA, could the ones they are involved in be also considered NZ Films, just as anything filmed in NZ totally funded by overseas money and full of overseas actors could be?

We have some talented Directors, Writers etc I don't deny that. But "WHAT" would be considered a True New Zealand Film?

631990 2008-01-20 19:21:00 True NZ film to me would be NZ actors, Film crew, writers and locations. rob_on_guitar (4196)

Whale Rider
Goodbye Pork Pie

You can't really class LOTR as Kiwi, but damn they were well made.

PJ FTW.

Edit - Peter Jackson, not Poppa John. :p

631996 2008-01-21 05:46:00 No-one mentioned The Piano? Although I didn't enjoy it, people I know rave about it. Greg (193)
631997 2008-01-21 05:47:00 No-one mentioned The Piano? Although I didn't enjoy it, it got rave reviews here.

Didn't know that was kiwi!

I didn't like it either, personal taste, but it was a good movie, well made, and the right audience would have loved it.
