| 631616 | 2008-01-19 05:52:00 | Do you have a telepathic ability? Of course you do . It is just that you may not be aware that you have that ability . Telepathy, from the Greek τελε, tele meaning "remote" and πάθεια, patheia meaning "to be affected by describes the transfer of information on thoughts between individuals by means other than the five classical senses . The term was coined in 1882 by the classical scholar Frederic Myers to replace the earlier expression thought-transference . A person who is able to make use of telepathy is said to be able to read the minds of others, but that is a mistaken belief . The inference is that you are able to penetrate their mind at will and know what they are thinking about, but that is incorrect . You do not read someones mind, but you are able to receive communication from another person . It is a deliberate act in the same way that spoken conversation is a deliberate act . You do not teach anyone how to send messages telepathically, as if they do know how to do it, because they just do not know that they can . A more correct statement might be that you make them aware of their natural ability and have a few practice sessions to sharpen their ability . You might compare it to learning to walk . There is no doubt that you can walk but you need encouragement and practice . Have you ever known, upon hearing the phone ring, who it is? Of course you have but you are not confident enough to say their name upon answering because you don't want to appear silly if you are wrong . Nevertheless, you knew who was calling . How did you know? Because they told you just before they rang . That is not to say that the caller or you were actively practicing telepathy, they may not have even realised that that was what they were doing - it just happens . Try it, deliberately, yourself . For five minutes before you phone someone, sit down somewhere quiet and tell that person, in your mind, that you are going to call them, and they will know it is you the moment the phone rings . Try it with someone that you know does not have caller ID . You don't, as some people suppose, hear that person's voice talking to you . Sometimes the idea just comes to you and sometimes you require a trigger - such as the phone ringing . You can have the same affect when calling on someone unexpectedly . As you travel to their place, think to them that you are coming to visit . They will know who it is when you knock on the door . Try it - it works . Many people are sceptical about telepathy, but I am certain that it is more common than many people realise . It is particularly common between people who are close . My wife had never had telepathic experiences (of which she was aware) before she met me . Now it is a common happening between us . She was surprised at first, but now her reaction is, "You heard me then?" I have had many telepathic experiences, particularly with my mother, the best example being where we purposely put it to the test . While my mother sat quietly at home, I drove around Auckland, not knowing where I was going to end up, until my wife told me to stop . We parked in Khyber Pass opposite Lion Breweries . I looked around for a subject and focused my attention on a sign on the roof and a picture of their lion logo . The idea was that my mother at home, with a pencil and paper, was to draw what I was concentrating upon . When we returned we had a look at the picture and were disappointed . The picture she drew was not of the lion, but of a clock . The clock was square, there were no numbers, only lines and it was protruding from the side of a building . We declared the experiment a failure until my wife pointed out that there was a clock - exactly as my mother had drawn it was in my line of sight and I remember saying at the time that it was a nuisance because it was in the way . Obviously I spent more time studying that nuisance clock rather than the lion . Some years ago I had an idea that there was something wrong with somebody I knew . The only clue I had was it was female . I rang around all the women in my life, my mother, my sister-in-law, etc, but no problems . My mother advised me to go somewhere quiet and ask who . I knew almost immediately that it was my Nana who lived in Petone - I live in Auckland . We received a phone call from my mother's brother that my Nana had a heart attack at that day and time . There have been many other instances, such as my wife asking me to pick up milk or bread on my way home . (This was in the days before cellphones . ) Because you can't always tell if you have put the idea into your mind or not, telepathy can be unreliable, and so I have sometimes returned home to be greeted with, "Where's the milk?" And if you needed any more proof, the Russians experimented with telepathy during the Cold War . They needed a method of communicating with their submerged submarines - radio does not work underwater . Telepathy seemed a great idea . Their trials were moderately successful but they abandoned the tests as telepathy was found to be very unreliable - very hit and miss . They were able to send and receive messages but that was not the problem . As I said before, you do not hear a voice telling you to buy some milk on the way home - you just get the idea in your mind, but you don't always know that you have received a message . It is more like an idea that just occurs to you rather than a message that, all of a sudden, pops into your head . It was similar in the submarine and although the Russians acknowledged that telepathy worked they concluded that it was too unreliable . I do not consider myself psychic in any way and have never heard anyone from the spirit world talking to me, yet I too find telepathy relatively easy . My suggestion, if you are interested and not sceptical, is to give it a try you may find it easier than you imagined . But like any novice, you will need to practice . Go somewhere quiet with no distractions and tell someone that you are going to call them and they will know it is you the moment the phone rings . Or, if your loved one is out somewhere in the car, think to them to pick up s carton of milk (or something) on their way home . But dont be too disappointed if it does not work at first or every time . Like any skill it requires practice and like any skill some people are better at it than others . It can be more work and slightly more difficult than a telephone call, but it can be more fun and it is certainly more rewarding . Let's hear about your experiences . I couldn't be bothered reading all of that . |

There are some very intelligent people here - as well as the rest of us :D and I for one have regularly experienced this type of telepathy. You don't have to convince me, it happens, but only with people I'm close to. | Winston001 (3612)
| 631618 | 2008-01-19 05:55:00 | Most have a sense of Déjà vu........ The experience of déjà vu seems to be very common; in formal studies 70% of people report having experienced it at least once. References to the experience of déjà vu are also found in literature of the past, indicating it is not a new phenomenon. It has been extremely difficult to invoke the déjà vu experience in laboratory settings, therefore making it a subject of few empirical studies. Recently, researchers have found ways to recreate this sensation using hypnosis. Most of these things we can experience, but what we can conclude I know not. |

| 631619 | 2008-01-19 05:59:00 | Thank you for your encouragement, Winston. My experience is also with people that are close to me - my mother, my wife and my two daughters. Thank you for your intelligent input, Cicero. You are both restoring my conviction that there are a few discerning people out there in F1 land. Roddy Boy: Gave yourself away there, eh? Who was it that said, "It is best to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."? |

Who knows for sure? Telepathy involves chance, the possibility that two or more people may be on the same level thinking similar things. | jermsie (6820)
| 631621 | 2008-01-19 06:16:00 | Bit of a stretch trying to pin two people who are close and happen to be thinking the same thing on projecting your thoughts into their mind. And its excellent to see (once again) someone who thinks anyone that even looks close to accepting their piffle is an intelligent being, and everyone else is a numb-skull. Worked for the destiny Church I suppose. Anyone for cool aid? Of course, Your free to being up whatever you want, Damned close minded of you to reject any non-believers as fools. Do you own a copy of "The secret" by any chance? Projecting your desire for wealth out into the universe?, So it can ...wait, The next step always confuses me...OK,thats it, Nothing happens after that. |

| 631623 | 2008-01-19 07:01:00 | My other half has a nasty tendency to pick up on my thoughts. There I'll be happily sifting through a range of thoughts when suddenly, out of the blue, I'll hear "Have you thought about X" or "Shall we do X" or similar. It is uncanny how often it happens just as my thoughts have settled on "X" | Mercury (1316) | ||
| 631624 | 2008-01-19 07:17:00 | Jermsie: Another thinker. Thank you. Good to know there is more than one. Mercury: Thank you, but be careful you are not branded the same as me! For those among us with an open mind, the Americans and the Russians have conducted telepathy experiments with positive results. Only F1 members that believe that I may have a valid argument should have a look at: books.google.com and the rest of the disbelievers should take your closed minds and go elsewhere. |
