632667 2008-01-23 06:27:00 They are very tough - my son was born on Takapuna but went to Aussie on a British passport when he came back because he had not obtained a re-entry permit they made him buy a ticket to Australia. They did not enforce the return but kept an eye on the situation. Eventually when all sorted out he cashed in the return ticket and we got a refund. :horrified :angry

You have to be careful out there ! Nevertheless "they" are fairly reasonable (so long as you were not born in Takapuna ;) )

632668 2008-01-23 06:45:00 We arrived at San Francisco jet-lagged with a bottle of duty-free whisky in my back pack. Taking the elevator down to get our rental car, my pack fell off the trolley and broke the Johnnie Walker. The smell in the elevator was unreal!! And my passport in the front pocket of the pack was completely whisky-logged. I used that passport for 5 years more years until it expired. It was stained and it always had a smell, but I never had a problem, so I think a bit of water is insignificant. TideMan (4279)

Gutted about the Johnny. :(

You would have got a few intersting looks going through customs and hiring a car smelling like that!

632670 2008-01-23 08:09:00 My previous passport wasn't as flat and smooth as it should have been. Being a good girl, I had stuffed it into a flat money belt that fitted under your clothes and against my skin. I then proceeded to climb up some German cathedral tower in the late summer heat that took 15 mins of solid stair climbing. Twas a bit soggy after that :D Jen (38)
