Then I suppose PF1 ain't for them. As with many things, there is a cost.

This wouldn't rule out those who have posted previously before of course.

Your miles away, PressF1 is built for them, The decision was made when this version of the forum was launched to not require any crap to intefere with making a post in order to make access to information as easy as possible for the nubs.

Spam is a part of the internet, No one gets killed by it,And it gets dealt with as it appears, Yet another storm in a tea-cup over a nothing issue, Now being pounded with elitist crap.

Anyway, the mods would be out of a job if there were no spammers. If the spam is that bad a problem they can just get more mods to patrol when the current ones aren't around.

632086 2008-01-20 20:24:00 What about those boxes that have a generated image that autobots cannot read?

It would be pretty quick and might cut down the spam.

If all you ask for is a reading and keying in what you see to qualify a post...I think it's pretty fast and easy for anyone wanting info.

632087 2008-01-20 20:26:00 Just do a 2 question IQ test before granting access:

1. Are you a spammer?

2.Did you reply yes to the first question?

A spammer will probably write:

1. Sarah has a great body

2.Get in quick for a free PC!

632089 2008-01-21 08:46:00 Cease Spamming Initiatives

Heres my idea.

A way to stop or at least limit spammers from joining and spamming this board would be to use an initiative that lycaeum's messageboard has adapted.

Apart of lycaeum's registration policy is as follows:

Essay:
THIS FIELD IS MANDATORY. There is a 300 word minimum. Applications without an essay will be immediately rejected. Why do you have an interest in this board... Why do you want to become a member? This will be reviewed by our Moderators and Administrators and voted on. This process may take a few days up to a week or more. Thank you for your patience.

This form of scrutinising would also be handy to disallow membership to people who heavily use chav speak or text language.

The only problem with this protocol is if you were a new comer who wanted a question answered you would have to go though this process.

But have we come to this... I think so.

Maybe only allow people with an NZ IP number to join, and don't allow any free email addresses, such as yahoo, gmail, hotmail to join up (although you could swutch to a free email address after you had joined). Possibily the email address has to end in .nz, such as the one you get free from your ISP. I an sure that would stop most of the spammers.

632090 2008-01-21 09:00:00 And what about people like SurferJoe? PF1 members on holiday? Random helpful overseas members? Erayd (23)
632091 2008-01-21 09:03:00 Spam is a part of the internet, No one gets killed by it,And it gets dealt with as it appears,

Granted Spam is apart of the net, death is apart of life and although spam is no serial killer it's not a welcomed entity and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon .

Yet another storm in a tea-cup over a nothing issue,

Not a storm in a tea cup, far from it, just an open discussion on the matter .

Now being pounded with elitist crap,

Pounded why not? elitist crap - No just a discussion .
