632157 2008-01-20 15:16:00 I'll be in for a new 2nd hand car soon. Got my mind on either a VW Passat or a Toyoya Altezza - from year 2000, up to $14k max. What do you think?

And what does auction grade 4 mean?

632158 2008-01-20 17:26:00 Toyota Altezza. just forget the VW. Both expensive cars if something goes wrong, and unless the VW is a NZ new car something will go wrong. And at that price range the VW will be a jap import.

Is this off trade me or through turners?

632160 2008-01-20 17:59:00 VWs are fast, spirited, nimble and sporty..but like they said above $$ when the parts go broke.

And...you need a real Kraut to work on them...it's a whole different mindset to not ruin the engines and soft parts with a ham fisted sturm und drang mechanic.

Go for the Toyota...at least it's got some recognizable and less expensive parts on it.

632162 2008-01-20 20:03:00 My Toyota has recently reached 301000 KM.
Same motor, same gearbox.
No, not using oil yet.

632163 2008-01-20 20:07:00 Does this mean that VW are now the "other people's car"? R2x1 (4628)
632164 2008-01-20 20:14:00 And what does auction grade 4 mean?

From memory.....cars are graded from 1 to 5.

1 being a total piece of crap, damaged or modified.

5 being mint condition or new.

I would say a grade of 4 would be very favourable

632165 2008-01-20 22:18:00 Altezza hands down.

The VW WILL make a nasty hole in your back pocket.

I believe what AllBlack said about the grades is correct. 4 is good.
