785178 2009-06-23 21:15:00 Hi
Our wireless network has been running perfectly until yesterday when it will connect and then drop out. This only happens on sharing files between the two PCs however does not affect the internet which also runs wireless. The internet runs perfectly. Any ideas why the sudden drop out on the wireless file sharing but the wireless internet works fine?
Thanks for this
Nick

785179 2009-06-23 21:22:00 Are one of the machines running Vista?

Have you tried updating the firmware for the router? Is it overheating?

Does it happen too ALL pcs connected or just one?

Cheers

785180 2009-06-23 23:28:00 Hi
No it is in Xp. we only have one PC connected.
I could try the firmware update although the router is only about 9 months old.
Overheating not too sure but it didn't feel too warm

Thanks
Nick

785181 2009-06-23 23:33:00 9 months is old, the manufacturer has probably released new firmware.

Try that first, and if it doesn't work then we may have to investigate further:)

785182 2009-06-24 05:59:00 You may not notice internet dropouts, they may only be seen as a slight delay.
Wifi is not allways a reliable network connection method, cable is alot more reliable & sometimes the only fix.
2.4G is a free for all frequency, so allmost anything could be causing interference.
Try changing wifi channel on the router(probhably wont help)
Run ping -t www.google.com and see if there are any dropouts.

785185 2009-06-25 02:57:00 Cordless phone on 2.4G perhaps?

Also microwave oven, cordless phones, toy RC's, garage door openers, TV signal
extenders, neighbours wifi
Damp walls/gib-board/bookcases can block wifi on wet weeks (2.4G is absorbed by water)
