635250 2008-01-29 23:55:00 Had a lady come in having trouble with her Vodafone Mobile Connect. She also wanted some anti-malware installed.

She intends to spend a year touring Aussie which is why Vodafone sold her this.

www.vodafone.co.nz

Its 30c per 10kb of data.

I took a look at a manual update for AVG I have downloaded, its 6614kb.

Now lets see, updates for anti-malware, a few emails, maybe a bit of webpage viewing, keep it to a minimum. Or 1GB per month of net use - who wants to work that out?!

And I thought Vodafones NZ charge of $49.95 for 1GB was bad........

635251 2008-01-30 01:34:00 Yeap, it is a total rip off. I don't know why the commerce commission hasn't gotten onto this, rather than just voice call pricing. robbyp (2751)
635252 2008-01-30 02:26:00 I don't understand why they can't see they would get a far better take up by consumers if the prices were reasonable. Maybe the international data circuits couldn't handle the pressure if more people used this 'service' and that's the reason for the high price (as a discouragement). johcar (6283)
635253 2008-01-30 03:43:00 It appears vodafone in NZ are more interested in fixed line services these days, as well as adsl which is actually affordable. Maybe that is where they make most of their profits. robbyp (2751)
635254 2008-01-30 03:54:00 Even so, it's still daylight robbery. wratterus (105)
635255 2008-01-30 04:01:00 She intends to spend a year touring Aussie which is why Vodafone sold her this.If she intends to be there for a year, then tell her to buy from a local provider. For example, with 3 in Australia, you can get 2GB transfer for $29 per month. If your overseas even for a week, its going to be cheaper 99% of the time to ditch your Vodafone SIM card and get one from a local provider. maccrazy (6741)

They are travelling around in a motor home.

I told her using Wireless hotspots would be cheaper.
