786474 2009-06-28 03:34:00 Recently my Phillips 190C7 monitor went on the fritz, so I hooked up my flat panel, wide screen TV to use while it was getting fixed.
I had some trouble getting the display to stay at the resolution I wanted, but all in all it worked ok except it kept reverting to 1280x1024.

It turned out my monitor could not be fixed so they replaced it with a Phillips 190CW. I installed the new drivers but the display still kept reverting to 1280 x 1024. I cannot change anything in display manager it just stays at that setting I can only change it in Catalyst Control Center, but it doesn't stick.

So I have uninstalled the display drivers and done a registry cleanup, uninstalled the monitor driver did a registry clean up again then reinstalled all the latest updated drivers.

I still cannot change the settings at all in windows display manager, only in catalyst control center and every time a play a game or restart it reverts back to either 1280 x 1024 or to the lowest resolution.

I have tried everything....HELP!

786475 2009-06-28 04:21:00 What did you use to do the registry "cleanup"

I recommend using this:

786476 2009-06-28 04:26:00 I used Regedit and checked the registry to make sure all ATI software was uninstalled...it was. Wickitoria (11879)
786477 2009-06-28 09:17:00 Try setting them using UltraMon - sometimes that fixes it for me... sometimes. GingerBeard (15016)
786478 2009-06-28 21:26:00 I uninstalled display drivers again and noticed I cannot set display even though I have a choice without the ati drivers, its like display properties is broken. When I reinstalled drivers display defaults to lowest settings when restarted or after playing a game, have to continually reset using catalyst, but settings dont hold. Cannot use windows display settings at all, if I try it defaults back to lowest settings. Wickitoria (11879)
786479 2009-06-28 21:27:00 By the way, I don't think UltraMon will work for me as I only have one display on at a time. Wickitoria (11879)
786480 2009-06-30 07:36:00 Im having exactly the same issue except with an nvidia card. Ive reinstalled the drivers multiple times, tried to change the resolution without any drivers installed and still no luck. HOWEVER by right clicking on the nvidia task bar icon and changing the resolution from there it changes but wont stick and reverts right back to the crappy resolution as soon as I restart or quit / tab out of a video game.

Edit:

Talked to a EvGA tech on the phone and he said its most likely a problem with the card itself but said he could not be 100% sure = /

What really sucks is my monitor died as well today and when I hooked up another i found out I couldnt change the resolution =(

786481 2009-06-30 21:41:00 I have searched the web and suspect it may be a windows update that affects the display properties. If it was a card problem then wouldnt be able to change the resolution at all, this seems a software issue.
When did your problem start????
Am going to try the onboard graphics next, if the same problem it definately isnt the hardware.

786482 2009-07-02 06:20:00 To be honest i'm not sure, the crappy resolution is the one I used to use with my wide-screen before it broke so this could have been going for quite awhile without me noticing. lemme know how your on board video test goes. skeets (15046)
