Remember reading some time back that many poms suffered from depression etc because of the lack of sunlight. (Ever spent any time in the UK? They can go for months with little or no sunlight!) They used bright light therapy as a cure.

Perhaps that is an answer. Make certain that you are working close to bright light.

Everybody has what is referred to as a "third eye" (the pineal gland) and is positioned in the centre of your forehead. It reacts to the amount of bright light it receives. If the light level drops (as the sun goes down) the pineal gland secrets melatonin which makes you sleepy.

So it sounds as though you need more bright light in your diet.

You have my sympathies. Shift work is no fun, particularly these days when you receive little or no extra pay for working those disgusting unsociable hours! I used to receive petrol money, shift money, overtime, etc which made it almost worthwhile. I know that SWMBO was pleased.:)

634162 2008-01-29 09:19:00 It quite dumb here, for those extra things like,. using your own phone for business or you car extra, they expect you to fill out a form to claim back any denomination. Say instead of waiting til the end of the month when your phone bill comes in they want it at the end of the week etc....

All good though, I just got to keep thinking positive and harden up.;)

634163 2008-01-29 09:41:00 I mean I just did 3 shifts in a row (24 hours), had 16 hours off and back in again . This seems to be an ongoing thing here .

Well, if you stuff up through lack of sleep, or actually drop off on the job, your employer will crucify you either way, but if you have an accident at work or on the way home OSH will crucify your employer .

It is utterly brainless to work somebody 24 hours straight and expect them to perform, and your chances of ever seeing baby are severely reduced every time you get behind the wheel in that state .

Why on earth would you need to work those hours? Surely they can get somebody else to do the graveyard shift (so named for very good reason by the way, because of the number of workers who ended up there) .

Caffeine and other stimulants don't improve matters, all they do is produce a half-awake zombie . Ask the Boss to indemnify you in writing for any mistakes you make after completion of the second shift, that will open his eyes .

Bet your pay rate stays the same whether it is 8, 12 or 24 hours you work too .

Cheers

634164 2008-01-29 10:37:00 I could point fingers, but instead Ive told the boss whats been happening.
He has taken it in and I have from Friday onwards Im off for 2 weeks to rest up (I havent even had time off for xmas yet lol) so yea, thats a start I guess.

As for extra pay rate, no but i am getting reimbursed a full days wages for each shift worked.

I actually liked my job but it is harsh when half the team bugger off for personal reasons (eg:fake sickies to get on the piss for a week. But thats a different story).

634166 2008-01-30 00:19:00 Man They Rock!!! Yeah Blast the D!

MA - aka Meth will keep you awake, well awake in fact . Although I'm not going to recommend it .

You could try No Dose tablets, they work .

I second No Doz - they worked for me, when i had to do an all-nighter for an assignment .

I've also heard that apples are good too, so maybe try the apples first? (more natural, healthy and all that :))

634169 2008-02-14 17:54:00 Well... you worry about the money and how will you cope with baby.

Think how baby will cope when daddy writes himself off coz he was tired

Simple really, tell the boss to get their sh|t together, or find a new job
