633700 2008-01-26 20:55:00 Couldn't agree more. One thing that gets me about 'herbal supplements' is that people think that 'because it's natural it's not harmful', but many, many natural things are harmful, eg; opium, marijuana, and many other things. Usually it's the placebo effect anyway. www.badscience.net has more info on that sort of thing.

Of course natural things can be harmful but chemicals like 245T can really be harmful (remember, Marijuana isn't necessarily harmful anyway. If you take small amounts then I suspect you are fine (not that I do). It might increase the risk of certain side effects though.

Its more about choices. If you want food that has been grown "naturally" thats your choice (even if it costs a bit more). What the definition of natural is, is different from person to person.

Crikey, even the "naturnal" sun can be harmful. Most people appreciate this (unless you are into image  )

633701 2008-01-26 23:42:00 When is the last time you heard of a famine in India ?
Back in the 50s the worry was that the world was going to run out of food.
However that was solved by the Green Revolution, particularly in India.
The Green Revolution was based around selecting developed high yield
crops and agrochemicals.
In other words not "natural"
Over the years we have discovered that certain man made chemicals have dangers, particularly if misused, however the good far out ways the bad .
The Sue Kedgleys of this world are positively dangerous

I do beg your pardon . Obviously "gorgeous locks" has a different connotation in the deep south . ;)

I have lived in the south some years back and I did notice that certain words had different meanings in that part of the country . Does not mean that you southerners are a bit strange, it just means that you southerners are a bit strange?

This thread has highlighted a few more points that I had not considered all of which seem to back the idea that these terms are used without too much thought as to what they mean .

It has also highlighted (to my chagrin) the gender of some of the F1 crowd .
