For example, if your present address is fredbare@whatever.com I would suggest you change it to fred.bare@whatever.com then, of course, tell all your contacts.

Second, the people you advise of your new address should only be trusted family and friends. No-one else!

Third, when you feel the urge to give out your address for whatever reason, use the address, fredbare@mailinator.com, but never give out your new address.

This may work for a while but it is not full proof. Why? because some of the people you email will have malware or viruses ontheir computer that will email their address book to spamming harvesting robots. There is nothing you can do about this. The only real way is to have good spam filtering, both with your email host, and on your local computer.

Thankfully I have not had that problem, yet, and I have had my present address for two years now. Perhaps it is only a matter of time but I don't think that two years spam free is too bad, eh?

Safari seems to think that my idea has merit. I certainly think so.

Bantu and Lurking also have similar tales.

To continue being spam free I will keep my primary address for a select few. It certainly appears to be working at the moment.

I have an email address that has been in use since 2001, and it has been displayed on the internet, and emailed hundreds if not thousands of people. However I only get perhaps 1 or 2 spam emails a day, which isn't too bad. Although I no longer display it on the internet, I am guessing that these spamming robots do lose email addresses over time. The best way to fight spammers, is for the world governments impose some form of a fine on the ISPs that continue to host the spammers.
