786277 2009-06-27 09:47:00 I had sound last night (from my desktop speakers, that is). This morning our son rang from London and I tried quickly to reinstall Skype (including changing sound in Settings-Contol Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices from Realtek AC97 Audio to Logitech Microphone under Audio). After that didn't work I returned the setting to Realtek. NOW I have no sound from my speakers - at all.

I have been through various checks including trying other speakers (they didn't work either). I looked under Device Manager - didn't see anything there to worry about. Considered reinstalling the sound drivers, but got the message "Cannot find the path specified". Tried System Restore to a time when there wasn't a problem - no luck.

OS - Xp Pro.

So - now what? Suggestions would be appreciated. :)

786278 2009-06-27 10:12:00 Why did you change SOunds? You don't have to.
You right clicked the Volume icon in Taskbar, Open Volume Control and checked nothing is muted or turned down?
You right clicked the Volume icon in Taskbar, Adjust Audio Properties, and checked nothing is muted here either, and all its settings here are right?

Try uninstalling Skype, ehich from what you've said seems to be when things went wrong.

Why don't people use Google Talk instead of Skype - it's such a nasty program.

Tried all of that - unsuccessful. :( HOWEVER, I now have the Windows Startup and Closedown sound - I didn't even have that before! That was after I got rid of Skype. I can also hear music from the taperecorder to my speakers, but the three audio players that I have don't play. VLC says 'Check log for details' - what log??? And where?

So I still can't play music.

786280 2009-06-27 22:15:00 Sort of sorted it for the moment - I think either a faulty line input jack or socket, not sure which. :clap

Until the next crisis....:badpc:
