635966 2008-01-31 09:50:00 Your poll should read "Should XP be unavailable for purchase after June 30 2008?" Erayd (23)
635967 2008-01-31 20:16:00 We are talking Windows here, it's MEANT to be confusing. ;) R2x1 (4628)
635968 2008-02-01 00:46:00 For all it's shortcomings, it's still a long way better than Vista. It'll be the new Windows 98SE, (aka the best current iteration of windows at the moment). ubergeek85 (131)

635970 2008-02-01 03:05:00 mmmm...poll is confusing but the issue isn't. Its an interesting battle, a monopoly vs the market.
We recently had to purchase a laptop for school use, the school IT guy pleaded with us to find an XP loaded model so that it would network. Had a job finding one as M$ has forced manufacturers into only shipping Vista....what happens when sales of machines drop, do the manufacturers ship pc's with no OS ?

Hopefully.

The average person now with little to no decent knowlegde of the computing world will go out and buy whatever the salesperson tells them to. They will most likely recommend Vista, unless they use their brain and say XP which I doubt. (they dont get paid to use their brain)

If pcs are shipped with no OS, customors won't feel forced to buy that crappy OS. Tho the salespeople will probably still try and sell it.

635972 2008-02-01 05:08:00 Why is there such a willingness to bow to the Microsoft marketing effort. Twelve of our members, so far, are doing so by voting for

No, keep selling it until XP is no longer supported
We will probably have to live with that reality, but to actually support it !!
I have illogically thought that we are free, independent and thinking individuals  :illogical :waughh:

You are forgetting Windows 2000 - that was a great OS

Well, a great version of Windows anyway. Still is, except for a few frilly bits it lacks.
