2009-06-29 04:03:00 | Hi Guys Have got a customers laptop and they wanted a fresh install xp home, But my issue is windows activation, I have activated it and it accepted it but I still can't logon getting the same error message again and again "this copy of windows must be activated...." So I try to activate again and it says "Windows is already activated click ok to exit" Clicking ok takes me back to the login screen and when I click the default user account to enter I get the same, message "this copy of windows must be activated....." I'm stuck in a loop. Now I tried an unatteneded install of xp pro on another dive I slotted in and it loaded fine. Now this is a Genuine Windows XP Home Licence, I'm using my Home XP CD and their Key. Can't say I have ever had this problem before. I get the same message using safe mode, so can't try a reg fix I found Any ideas? Cheers

2009-06-29 04:16:00 | Had this once - it appeared to be a bad install for some reason - I did a Repair install on it and it went fine after that. | wainuitech (129) | |

2009-06-29 05:54:00 | Had this same thing. In one case was a faulty Hard Drive and the other a faulty CD Drive. | berryb (99) | |
2009-06-29 08:11:00 | I have tried a repair install and a fresh install with original disc, have also tried another HDD same issue. Do you think it could be the CD Drive? But XP Pro installed fine

2009-06-29 08:45:00 | Just got a feeling ( Eeeewwww :D ) It is possible the CD you are using along with the product key on the laptop are not quite matching, even though the install went in OK. When it asks to activate, select telephone activation, work through the voice prompts by entering the 42 digit activation code - I think it will come back as invalid - then select 1 ( from memory) to talk to a MS Rep. Simply tell them you have reinstalled the OS using the COA on the Laptop, but it wont activate -- you'll more than likely get 20 Questions type of thing, but they will give you a new activation code, to match the install code.

2009-06-29 09:26:00 | It is an oem version, Tried phone activation twice, it passed each time and gave me the code, that said it worked but still got same problem, I was hoping to get to speak to a rep, but didn't happen, even tried a bogus code, but still couldn't get to speak to anyone. Tried a key off the net to get an invalid code and it still accepted that, said activated, still cannot get in. What next? Thanks

2009-06-29 11:23:00 | Have you tried any *cough* alternative activation methods? In a spirit of inquiry, you understand. Just Keys off the net to try and gain access, they accept the key and activation which is strange but still no access. However I can gain limited access if I use the the on screen narration, and can navigate through windows but it would be a mission to download any activation bypass. Maybe I need to contact Acer and get an original CD, but was hoping to avoid extra costs to the customer. Any other ideas. How can I get hold of a person at MS for activation? I have plently of other times, on invaild codes but just when you want to be invalid it won't. :o
