Microsoft Australia also released its Windows 7 pricing today, which also more or less matches Vista.

An upgrade to the Home Premium edition will cost $A299 ($NZ358), to the Professional Edition $A399, and the Ultimate Edition $A469.

Microsoft New Zealand Windows product manager Ben Green tells NBR that pricing is still a work in progress: “I do have the details but need some time to hammer out the final points. It’s reasonable to expect a result similar to Oz in terms of your ‘close-to-Vista’ description.”

Windows Vista Home Premium costs $249 in New Zealand, with academic upgrades from $169. The Vista price sheet runs right up to the full Ultimate edition at $599 -

787494 2009-07-03 02:15:00 Well, speaking as someone who is still quite happily using W98, I can't fathom why people insist on coughing up good money to migrate to the latest OS.

So to me Win7 is not worth anything.

I'm p'd off however at the fact that I need a replacement printer, and may be forced to upgrade OS due to Win98 printer drivers no longer being offered.

It's the rabid battalions of users who insist on senseless upgrading that causes all this rampant (and expensive) trashing of old kit for new kit... and what do you gain?

You have a processor that burns 5 times as much power while it spends 99.9% of it's time in a wait state - waiting for the slowest part in the whole chain... the user at the keyboard... to make some input.

That 3GHz kit won't help you write your documents and emails any faster, mateys, coz YOU are the slowest part of the entire system.
But it's made you poorer for upgrading to it!

787495 2009-07-03 02:28:00 Senseless upgrades? Often old technology doesn't work for everyone, and I frequently max out my 3.2GHz dual core processor and 3GB RAM.

Win98 is unproductive now, it's over 10 years old and isn't supported by pretty much anything anymore, it's certainly no good in a business environment with servers and networking, and is no good for gaming. It's also extremely insecure.

It's not like it's olny 2 or 3 years old and is being phased out already, it has had an excellent run, as XP is still doing.
